RPM, why do you prefer the Auburn type? I replaced my '83 rear (after it grenaded, from abuse) with an Auburn + new 3.73s. I sold that car and have the '02 with Torsen. I wonder if you prefer the Auburn for the same reason(s) I do...

Overall, I guess the Torsen should last longer in theory (mileage wise), and you don't have to worry about LSD additives (even though it's still recommended - though I don't know why), but I still like the feel and chatterless operation of the Auburn better.

Thanks for the insight. I don't have any chatter with mine (yet?) it seems just as quiet. My issue is the way the Torsen posi "locks" when needed/required. I like the feel of the Auburn with the wheels having some preload to them and not having the feeling of open diff-locked-oversteer/loose feeling if you really load up with throttle when exiting a corner with the Torsen. The breakaway of the rear is more progressive and predictable with an Auburn and therefore the Auburn is smoother and easier to drive on a road course fast. It doesn't give you the Jekyl/Hyde treatment. There is the wear factor though to consider...

Being that I work on our little 10 bolts,I watch the 'rearend forum'.
Since Auburns were supplied up to/including the 98 models(now 13 years since last supplied),typical failures were the 'spider gears'.
Torsens were 1999 + later,and failures are the internal gearset and the 4 bolts that hold that internal gearset in the carrier case are loosening/backing out and breaking when they hit something in the housing. Also that flange end (the part held in by those 4 bolts) is failing/cracking.
I prefer the Auburn and Eaton 'clutch-plate' posi. Been using them since the mid 60s'. Also,in the 45 years,never used a 'friction modifier additive' and never had a problem with 'chattering'
