Is he competent enough to do a gear change? Has he done one in the past? I know how to do it, however I will pay someone to do it for me. I blame laziness on my part.

Oh and 4.10's as well........might as well get it tuned also.

That has absolutely nothing to do with mechanical skill.

I would leave it to a reputable professional.. Gear whine from incorrect installation is a PITA.

I have a gear whine after the LSFest when that was the first time I raced it with the 4.10s (broken in and all), any chance that the rear end shop I took mine to did it incorrectly?

7.73s lol

When I bought my m6 car it already had 4.10s. Didnt realize it till I was going WOT and was shifting into 5th at 110 lol. It has some gear whine but the exhaust drowns it out mostly. They are alot of fun driving around town with

Hard launches will cause gear whine REAL quick.

If it had not whined before then, was probably the launching rather than the installer.

You are looking at 350-500$ in parts/labor depending on the price of the gears you buy and how much the shop charges.

Parts and labor cost me 700, just because you can race doesnt make you a pro at installing parts. Some people can drive really well and dont know jack about installs or tuning.

You will need an intall kit with bearings and shims. Never tried one, but a lot of people like the solid pinion sleeve.

I had my rear end rebuilt when I did mine, so I just assumed. I guess either one of these would work:

I had 4:10s in my 6 speed car and loved them. I bought genuine GM gears and they never whined and they had 30+ 1/4 mile passes along with aton of abuse on the street. The install labor was $200.

This time around Im going with 3:90's because Im planning on a Procharger in the future and trapping 135+mph.
