So last week my friend, who has a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT and I finally made it down to the drag strip to race, and I smashed him, my 13.57 to his 14.30. Before the race and he continues this after the race, he insists my car weighs over 3,600 lbs. And one of his friends, who is the owner of a 2000 Camaro SS and a 2003 Corvette convertible thinks my car weighs 3,700 lbs! I told them, I have the Z28 model, which I'm sure is slightly lighter than the SS model, and I don't have a convertible, so it won't be that heavy.
My friend took his car to a truck stop scale and weighed it, 3,950 lbs with no one in it. That seemed to be fairly accurate to what his car should be. After a week I finally took my car to the same truck stop. I asked the lady at the desk how accurate they were, her words were, "They're very accurate, they have to be so truckers can obey the laws." I put my car on their, got the receipt back. 3,440 lbs. Over 500 lbs less than his. My question is, do you think it's accurate? What's the usual margin of error for these scales?
I do hope it is accurate, next time I see him I'm going to prove him wrong yet again. Not only do I have the faster car, but I was right about the weight too.

Yea truck scales are pretty accurate. Thats a pretty average weight, its usually the stuff people keep in their car that adds the weight. My WS6 was pretty heavy with my stereo in it, I never got it weighed but id bet it was pushing 3800. Now im building a race car and shooting for 2700's

Anything within ~50lbs of 3500 is about right for an LS1 Z28 without any add-ons (like stereo, SFCs, sound-proofing, etc.). Of course, having a full tank of gas vs. a tank near empty can make a big difference too (full tank of gas is around ~120lbs).
I'd say your weight is exactly where it should be.
