I wish i had validation on the speed thing... 1998 SS M6 w/ 66k on the clock... subframe connectors, LCA's, 3:73's, Mac mids, true duals w/ high flow cats and custom mufflers, Z06 rims, and a few other small mods... I was clock by a friend of mine (county sheriff) around 2am on a 2 mile stretch of road at 174. Dont say it cant be done, b/c i've been there.... The car sat down around 150 and got more stable the higher i got up to about 170 and then it began to lift.

My brother took the car up to around 165 and then let off...

Like i said, I wish i had proof of that night but he was killed a few years ago when an ******* ran him over

I topped my 99 stock Z28 six speed(free mods only) in 5th gear, it bumped the limiter in 5th. Anyone know how fast that is?

Speed limiter is right around 162...Unless you mean the rev limiter?

I talked to one of the top dogs at SLP in the day, he said he took a WS6 to Talladega and was a passenger for a top speed run with a pro driver. The prep was upping the tire pressures, 93 or 94 octane but he did not mention a speed limiter that I can remember. Oh yeah, they got that car up to 274 km/h on the straight. This car was not a test mule, it was his personal (company car, I assume) vehicle. He said an equivalent Camaro SS may be a couple of ticks (at most) due to aerodynamics. So 170 mph or so is possible, 180mph would be unlikely for a production stock car. He works for Ferrari North America now, BTW.

Update on mine, I took my Garmin Nuvi 1300 with me last night, my speed limiter is still on after the tune, 5500 in 5th hits the SPEED limiter at 161.

The Nuvi is cool, has a separate page for top speed and shows max speed.

I topped off the tank with 93 and beat the buggs out of the K&N the day I bought my 99 z28 after it sat in a ATL Doctor's garage for 3 years. I hit 166 mph GPS with the top down and a passenger, over 500 lbs between both passengers. I put the top and 5% windows up as I exited the off ramp, 3State Patrol Chargers Hit the on ramp sideways. Triple black down to the wheels and no drive out tag. LOL So I believe the stock should read 170mph.

P.S. try 143 mph in a Nissan Titan on 22' steel wheels. Id rather do 200 in the Z28...
