500+hp street cars? Who has them? So with the ZL1 and GT500 putting up serious numbers I'm wondering who out there is driving our cars on the street (not a track setup) with that same kind of power? I'm kicking the idea around because it's way more affordable (and sneaky 
). I understand the concept of building the car to handle the upgrades. I wouldn't throw that kind of power in there without making sure everything else was up to the task. That's not what I'm asking.
I'm just curious what I might be getting myself into once it's all said and done. Would you do it again, or make the switch?

Can't go wrong with a forged 370 with some boost, Or even a N20 408 combo. If its just a street car and you don't plan on doing any hard digs with really sticky tires you can even run this power on a 10 bolt, I do without any issues..

This is my true DD, it is my only car in which I rely on to get to and from work and anywhere else I need to go on a day to day basis. It made 451rwhp on motor and I have a kit also but haven't got it dyno'd yet. I'm guessing it makes between 550-600rwhp on the kit depending on the shot.

My car will always be a "street car" as in I have no plans to do anything specifically designed to help make a quicker pass at the strip. I don't drive mine in the rain either, and it's damn near stock. I guess what I'm asking is, when you put the money and effort into these cars to see those numbers, are you satisfied?

My Vette makes 430 at the wheels N/A so its right around 500 flywheel mark. Besides the ceramic LT headers and CAI, it looks stock. It also drives like stock, even at cold start-up. The car is basically a stock C5 with 500hp and necessary drivetrain support to handle.

I've got 502 to the tire. I do not drive it everyday, however I could very easily. As a matter of fact not long ago i had to drive it everyday for 2 weeks while my DD was down. Not a single issue I had a lil bit of fun and with 60% city driving I still managed 21mpg. It is a true street car power everything, A/C, and it's full weight.

This calculator says I have 464 HP. So, I have to assume that 500HP cars are 10 second machines - if they have their combo is working.

And another thing not mentioned before. Twice I checked my highway mpg from the city I live to the city my sister lives, which is a 32 mile drive from gas station to gas station. All highway, both times my Vette averaged just over 34mpg. Not too shaby for a 500hp car.

Well mine is in no way a DD but it isn't a track car at all. Mine is also a M6 so that can change a few things.
I originally was going to keep the stock rear because I rarely drag raced and didn't own a sticky tire. I took alot of heat for this and so upgraded the rear before the motor went in. I also had the ls7 clutch which when the car was h/c worked just fine, 3 passes on the track with a sticky tire and it was junk. I'm still working on a clutch that I like that will take the HP. And a 9in just naturally whines and you don't have that from a 10 bolt.
Fuel mileage is around 15 mpg. I know lots tell you that they get great mileage and I wish I was one of them but it didn't happen for me. If you are going for that big a number then you have to expect it.
Driving on the street with street tires can be VERY interesting. Lots of things happen very quickly when you turn off the traction control and launch. Change in directions happen when you run over a bit of grit on the road on top of not having much weight over the front tire make for some interesting lane swaps. The good thing is that there usually isn't any one beside you. In short I really hesitate to do a full launch on a street tire unless I have alot of room on either side of me.
Highway rolls as gay as they sound are fun except that unless you are against an equal car you are never sure if the other person is racing.
I roll raced a 2010 SS on the highway, I gave him the hit or at least thought I did but I went by him so quick I wasn't sure if he had gone WOT. Same thing with my buddy's H/C 430rwhp Formula. I was never sure if he got into it or not because you go by so quickly.
Feeling the back of the car squirm when you go WOT in third gear is close to the top of the list of owning a 500+ car and don't get me started on the way it plants you in the seat in 4th.
I should say the one draw back that I have had is heat. When I installed the motor I also upgraded the rad but on a hot summer day climbing the bridge over the detroit river it melted the plastic sleeve inside the steering column. This is with coated stainless headers.
