What would you do in this situation?

If you had a '99 Z28 M6 that needed a new motor, which route would you take and why? Open for all suggestions and if you can post the estimated cost for doing it and final result (hp output and est. 1/4 time). I am trying to figure out what would be the best final option with cost being a factor. Limited to 10k (preferably less).
Thanks

a guy on turbo buick ( grand national forum) just posted an 8000 mile ls1 out of a 2001 ws6 , has ls6 intake ,tb ,coils etc... pretty complete for like $2300... says he has had it wrapped up in his garage for many years but never got to the project.
not saying its what you should do but its the first thing that came to mind and you likely could part out your engine and recoup some of the $$$ from redundant parts.

I'd take what you have to a reputable machine shop and build the motor you want. Just my .02. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF GOOD REFERENCES before you take it somewhere though. Not sure where you are but I could recommend one in the Dallas area. PM me if interested.

Well, when I went to start it up I believe it shot a connecting rod. I discovered a nickel sized hole in my oil pan behind the oil filter. I talked to the shop (they only work on LS motors, mostly corvettes) and they told me from what it sounded like that they could "band-aid" it back together with a bottom end from another LS1 and then would suggest that I sell it. So I figure i'll salvage what I can from the current engine and drop something newer in as that one had just over 100k on it. But i'm always open for suggestions. I can attach a couple pictures if anyone is interested in seeing. I am in NJ, btw.

My car did about the same thing but i just bent a connecting rod. I looked for about 2-3 weeks for a motor and wound up going with a LQ4 out of a 04 2500HD. The long block cost me right around $1,000. I bought some long tubes and put my stock heads back on it and put it back in my car. The entire swap only cost me about 2grand. I did not get a cam or have it tuned yet but just for the hell of it i took it to the track and ran low to mid 8's in an 1/8th mile. BTW my car is a M6.

That sounds like a pretty good way to go.
Some day when I have $ that will most likely be my choice.
LQ build with a cam. People seem to push great power out of them and they are the least pricey to put together.
