5.3 and 400+ bhp 243 or 799 as the title says i have a 2001 5.3 im gonna build to 400+ bhp. basicly build it to the 2002-2004 c5 zo6 spec. witch is "405 bhp." so did it come with the 243 heads or the 799 heads?
and what is the GM part number for the heads i need?
and i did a search but i couldnt find a def. answer and i git tired of "waiding" through all the pages. thanx for the help

I'm guessing you mean the ls6. It came with 243 heads. Look just under the valve cover rail above the exhaust ports. It will be on one end, depending on which end your looking at. You will see 243, or other casting numbers.
Your 5.3 should have 806 heads.

Look at the first picture of the engine in this thread you'll notice the 4 "triangles" underneath each spark plug hole. Those are 241 castings, other castings that are cast this way are the 243's and the 706's off of 5.3L truck motors. The 317 heads from 6.0 truck motors might be as well. The only reason the 799 heads don't have them is because there cast a different way by a different vendor.

I dont remember what magazine it was but is was either october or november issue this year and they did a build with the 5.3..cam,heads and I believe an ls6 intake they pushed out 428hp at the flywheel...Its possible, just have to know what your doing. My cam and intake 5.3 has passed my expectations...planning to spray it next summer and see how she goes.
