Lately I’ve been having issues getting the suction cups that hold my radar detector to the windshield to cling. It’s gotten worse since the cold weather set in to the point where it falls down every couple hours. Putting the setups for dirty jokes aside, is there some trick to getting these to stay up? Is it better or worse to lick them for a little moisture underneath?

Also, anyone found a cool alternative to the suction cups all together? On my G6 there’s a DOT matrix on the windshield, so I removed the suction cups from the bracket and used molding tape. Been that way for a while and it isn’t going anywhere, but stuck directly to glass the tape eventually loses its grip. I remember on the old detectors they used to use clamps that fixed to the headliner and those seemed to work well. Any ideas?

I had the same problem, once they get old, they lose their curvature and don't stick well. Getting them moist does help, but if they are not curved right, they won't stay. You can replace them, or on my 5th gen I used some heavy duty double sided tape and that has worked well for some time now.

Go to the nearest truck-stop they most all have new mounts
Look them over closely even if the mount is wrong the cups may
work.

My father made a nice mount in the camaro. Started with a block of wood, sanded it down so it matched the shape and size of the radar detector pretty good, then wrapped it in leather. He then used 3M double sided tape to attach the radar, then screwed a piece of metal on the back that had a 90 degreeish angle on it with a notch cut in the middle. The metal piece sat nicely in the vents on the dash. Worked well and the only time it even moved was when I auto crossed the car.

I have a passport 8500x50 and like stated they got old. I just ordered new ones and problem solved....

I see there's a BlendMount ad on the top of the page...uses the r. view mirror.

I used JB-weld to glue the V1 mount to the windshield.
This held up for a few years but the sun eventually
made it let go.

Now I have a pad of "industrial" Velcro stuck on behind
the rear view mirror and a mating piece glued to the
arm instead. Easily replaceable if (when) it lets go,
and removable other than the base pad.

I don't like hanging things on rearview mirrors if their
mount is itself just glued to the glass.
