Trans Am in WS6 form:
2 door vs 4 door
T tops vs no t tops
Welterweight vs light heavyweight
Sinister nostrils vs tame nostrils
Curves vs no curves
car payment vs no car payment
Easier to launch at the strip vs not so easy
Lol i could go on. I honestly like both cars, but obviously more biased to the TA.

A couple of considerations that haven't been mentioned:
1) No t-tops or convertible with the GTO. When the weather is really nice, the T/A will give you open air motoring pleasure that the GTO just can't provide.
2) GTO has a very small trunk. Put the back seat down and use the t-top cubby, and you have room to cart a ton of stuff in the T/A.
While I've been tempted at times to switch to a GTO for a DD, it's only because I can afford to have both. Left to just one, for these and other reasons it would be an f-body.

As others have said it really just depends on what's more important to you. The GTO interior is far and away better than the F-Body. Sound systems on both cars are above average. I'd personally wait out for a sweet deal on an 05' GTO (LS2), but if it's only between an 04' or a T/A I'd pick the Trans Am for the following reasons (all personal preference of course):
-T-tops
-Lighter/more raw performance potential than the 04' GTO
-Better Looking
Some good info (specs and reviews) on both cars at www.LSXreview.com if you need.

If you haven't driven both cars that should be the first thing you do. And honestly the F body guys are going to say go with the Trans Am and the GTO guys are going to say go with the GTO. Sure there are little differences, the F body guys are going to say "our cars are lighter and have T Tops" and GTO guys are going to say "we have better interior" But in all honestly There is not a big difference between the two cars from a performance standpoint. and at the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference and which feels better. Both cars have a different feel and different looks, but at the end of the day both are LS1's and are good cars, so you can't go wrong with either

I dislike the appearance of the GTOs, so if those were my only choices I'd pick the Trans Am.

This is your DD so I would go with the GTO. It's just a better newer car even though a bit slower. The trans am is a better looking car, but the GTO have grown on me over the years. I voted for the GTO. Get a manual though, there faster.

its just hard to say, the ls1 gto from an appearance stand point looks bad compared to the ls2 gto...and that's just a matter of changing the rear bumper, tail lights, and hood. the TA looks good and nothing needs to be changed. The GTO of course is going to ride better and minor mods will get you leaving the mustang all day for both cars. I would go GTO due to the interior being that much more refined. if you could put funds together to pull an ls2 gto, this wouldn't even be a question in my opinion.
