Default What would you do?

I bought an '07 Tahoe with a 5.3. Before everyone dogs me for how bad they get gas mileage, what would you do to improve it.

Intake and exhaust. Maybe gears depending on what kind of gears are in it already.

Here's the list I've comprised.
Pacesetter headers, Full Exhaust (with a highflow cat).
102/102 Fast Truck Intake
5.3 PRC Stage 2.5 Heads
CAI
3.23 Gears
Tune

I've taken the back seats out as a "weight reduction" but that's about all I'm going to do.

Will any of these mods have any effect on it being an LS4 motor, and having the Variable Valve Timing (skips a cylinder ever other cycle for gas mileage)?

Should I ask the same question in the LS4 Section?

You going for gas mileage here or power? If gas mileage it definitely won't improve with h/c/i, if gas mileage get a conservative tune, exhaust, intake. Basically all your bolt ons

intake, exhaust and tune. does it have a manual fan or electric? if manual, swapping to an electric will help.

just don't forget, your ACTUAL savings from these mods will take a very long time to make up for how much your going to spend on them. so personally i'd leave it stock unless you want exhaust for sound purposes. and taking your seats out really aren't helping much. i think people expect to much out of "weight reduction" unless your really going for every last tiny bit. or unless your really stripping a car for strictly racing purposes.

OBVIOUSLY these upgrades I listed WILL make more power. However, throwing ideas out there for "better gas mileage". And no where on my list was there a Cam Selected.

It has an electric, and the weight reduction was just a ploy, It's not getting stripped, I just took out about 50lbs by removing the 3rd row. Does it matter on the grand scheme of things on an 5,500lb vehicle, no.

It's rated at 14 City 22 Highway with the VVT 5.3. If I got 22-24MPG Highway, I'd be ecstatic.

So you want to spend $1,000 + on heads and almost as much on a fast intake just for better fuel economy?

Sell the truck or drive it as is. Even if you got the milage your looking for, it would take a very long time to pay for the modifications you want.

Hell my 2006 Canyon with the 3.5 inline 5 cylinder only gets 16mpg highway. So I wouldn't be expecting any kind of miracle.

I get 19mpg from my 1999 5.3 Silverado 2wd (mostly highway with some towns mixed in, hilly terrain the whole trip)

Underpowered turds do not help fuel economy since they just lug around too much. My old 93 Chevy short wide with a v6 got 14-16mpg highway and you had to turn the a/c off just to maintain 70mph up hill.

OP:
port the tb, cheap headers/exhaust, replace the stock intake tube with a smoother CAI type with no silencers but use the stock airbox, 87 octane tune, and you should pick up a little

might not be enough to offset costs for a very long time though

Which are notorious for terrible fuel milage.

Port and polish the stock heads maybe?
What about that SLP CAI from Texas Speed that still has a box with it?
