Hello,
Looking into engine mounts for my current F-body build. I would like to stay away from solid mounts. I bough poly mounts and did not realize that they use the factory metal casing. I am somewhat against that.

Is there any other options? Thanks.

Nope, no other option with poly mounts. You'll have drill out(or grind off) the rivets like everyone else.

As stated, there are three choices. Upgrading the bushings within the factory Clamshells is pretty straight forward. What makes you "somewhat against" this setup?

I was just hoping someone offered something else than the factory clam shell.

I just took my poly motor mounts off, swapped back to rubber.

They do. Solid mounts.

They aren't so bad in an M6 car. I wouldn't ever do it again though unless it was for a race build.

Don't like the added vibration, the additional flex in the rubber also helped me get the drive line angle I needed.

I used the energy susp polys too. It does seem wierd that you have to use your old clamshell housings but not that big of a deal. I'm happy with them.

Apparently there is some halfway ghetto thing people are doing. Putting urethane windshield sealant around the stock rubber in the mounts and letting it harden. Has anyone here tried that?

Any links to somebody who has done that? Aircraft panel/seam sealant would work great for something like this, but I am not sure how well it would bond to the rubber, and it would definitely stand up to the heat considering we use it for engine nacelle panels. Sounds ghetto, but if it works and wasn't as extreme feeling as a solid mount (I had Spohn solids in two cars) or transmitted vibrations like poly mounts it might be worth a shot. Worst case scenario, you scrape it out and install rubber or poly.

I've not seen it done on f bodies, just some guy on a 240 forum mentioned doing it. Be a pioneer and do it man! I'm doing mounts in my car soon but I will not be making the effort twice to take them out, urethane them, test them then either keep them or install my polys.

Plus it would be best to do it with new rubber mounts because it is already in the correct position, once they wear they start to jostle around and it would be difficult to get it to fit right.

I don't have enough down time with school and work, and my car's current mounts are still fairly solid. It was just a thought.

You can buy liquid urethane kits just for that purpose.

Ah nice! Might be worth a shot to some!

Once I get my poly's on if I don't like them, i'll be going this route

I swapped back to the stock rubber also just to get rid of the vibration. I don't think using the stock clamshells again is a problem just make sure that the rivits are replaced with bolts.

Is there a demand for aftermarket clam-shells for the engine mounts? We can manufacture it if the product makes sense.

Believe it or not the poly engine mounts transfer very little additional vibration, it's the poly trans mount that's normally the culprit.
