Pros/Cons of GMs new direct injection small blocks in 2014?

Default Pros/Cons of GMs new direct injection small blocks in 2014?

Are these new direct injection engines a good thing or bad thing overall for us in regard to aftermarket performance and tuning? How will they differ from the current?

IMO it will be a bit more complicated to work on them, but it wont be long for these blocks to start getting modified with aftermarket stuff. Everythinhg is still to be seen soo cant really say its gonna be a good thing or a bad thing.

honostly, i think its a junk design..i see them in the new engines like the acadia, and terrain at work, and they hall have driveability issues because the fuel isnt spraying on the back of the valve, rather spraying directly into the combustion chamber. so all the carbon collects on the backs of the valve more and causes misfire issues.

we always have to de-carbon the engines.

A proper ventilation setup and collector before the intake manifold takes care of all that. If there are no oil vapors entering the manifold, there will be nothing to carbon up on the back of the now dry intake valves.

Wonder what these new injectors cost?

Probably won't be a cheap upgrade anymore.

Injectors will/or should be more expensive.

yea...but your everyday guy/woman that d.d's one of these isn't gonna do that..gotta think of the big picture..us "tuner" guys are a small fraction that WILL do this. for everyone else...unfortunate for them

Pretty much most of the people^ lol Since a lot of people tend to buy new vehicles without knowing much about them.

Pro's ? They will push down the price of the LS3's and LS7's.

Con's? You will have to be one smart rich S.O.B to mod them.

Personally the New LT1 is longer over due. I think the cost of these engines upon release will encourage the LS3 market nicely.

I just hope the General decides to open up that pcm. So I can do my thing and bump up the HP.

I dont think the prices for the LS7s will go down just yet since they will be kept used on the new Z/28 Camaros. As far as the LS3s go I think they will low down on value

I'm wondering if the direct injectors would be able to handle a wider range of power due to the high pressure. I don't tune, but would think with the higher psi, it would take a smaller increase in duty cycle/pulse width than a traditional injector to keep up with demand. So maybe able to go from 400 rwhp to 600 with only changing fuel pump.
