Okay... I'm confused... Formula or Trans Am?!
so my buddy and I were talking about cars and my 4th Gen bird came up. I have a 98 LS1 Convertible. The reason I say LS1 is because I am now confused on whether or not it's a Trans Am or a Formula.
My bird in fully loaded and has the Trans Am bumper (with fog lights), but has the sleek beak. I was under the impression that the Formulas didn't come with the T/A fog light bumper so I assume my bird is a Trans Am, and I am pretty sure it's not the WS6 since I don't have the badges, but my buddy was saying that he thought all T/A came with ram air and because I have the sleek beak, I probably have the Formula.
So which is it?!

Formula's do not have center fog lights like the TAs - they have fogs below the turn signals.
Yours is a TA without the WS6 package - it is that WS6 package that adds a "Ram Air" hood. I will bet your taillight panel also says "Trans Am" along with the lettering on your doors...BTW, you could get the WS6 package on a Formula just to muddle things up.

If it has a "RamAir" hood from the factory its a WS6. To my knowledge there was never a "RamAir" option, only the WS6 option that included the hood, wheels, bigger front swaybar, raised air lid, different muffler, and slightly better shocks.

Not all TA' are WS6. WS6 is an option that could be added to either the TA or Formula. However it wasn't offered for all years of the Formula and is nowhere near as common of an option as it was on the TA'.
The Formula VS TA debate is easily solved by looking at the RPO codes on the door.
Pontiac's are a bit harder for some to tell what they have because of all the different options and models. Camaro's are easy its either flat hood = Z28 or SS hood = SS assuming we are talking as it came STOCK.

Which means it's perfectly fine for us to say they don't exist
While I'm not up on all the Firebird production figures, I'd wager that a T/A without WS6 is more rare than those with WS6. So, aside from your "sleek beak," you've got the same exhaust as a Formula and 16" wheels. Since it's a convertible, it won't have a high-rise wing, either.
