Trade in Silverado for a G8?
Hey all! I was just browsing Autotrade and had this crazy idea of trading in my Silverado for a G8 and i wanted ya'lls opinion on what you would do. First off i have a 2012 WT Silverado with LS package, single cab, 4.8, 4x4, tow package, 4XXX miles, In immaculate shape. KBB value is around 18,000. I had plans on swaping out the 4.8 with a LY6 6.0 in the future. But, i also could just trade it in for a G8 GT. One downside that comes to mind is that if i trade in my truck for a car, i would now have two cars, which kind of makes no sense too me. Also, do you think the G8's would ever be collectors? So would it make sense to trade in a brand new truck for a car with probably +40,XXX miles? You tell me!
Thanks
(I'm hyped up on caffeine right now, and kind of posted this on impulse lol)

I dont think they will become collectors. Fun cars, yeah with some mods, but I doubt collectors. As for the trade, why not trade the car for the G8? The truck is as you say, BRAND NEW, so why take a murdering on the value and then not be able to haul anything besides ***?

Another thought is that parts for the G8 will get hard to come by in the near future being a limited run car. The GTO crowd seems to be in that boat with many items. As much as I think both the G8 and GTO are great I wouldn't keep one for any length of time. Just a thought..

As nice as it would be to have a G8, i don't think financially it would be smart to take the hit on trading in my truck. I would be loosing like 5-6k just trading it in. I think my best bet would be to just turbo the truck or swap in a 6.0.

The G8 is the best car I ever owned, plus it's retained it's value in the 6 years I've had it since I bought it for $20K in 2008.

As awesome as a G8 is (I would get one if I needed a modern sedan) you hit the nail on the head. It just really doesn't make sense financially for you. If you just won the lottery or made enough money that it wouldn't make any difference is one thing...but if you're like most of us that would be a big hit for a basically brand new truck.
Keep the truck, save $$. Save for a 6.0 swap and call it a day. You could probably do it for pretty cheap once all is said and done if you sold the < 50k mi 4.8

Or, instead of swapping out the 4.8 in your new truck, you could just upgrade the cam, valve springs, and injectors, get it tuned, then go have some fun with it.
No sense it jumping from the 4.8 to the 6.0 unless you are wanting an absolute boatload of horsepower that you could never get planted..

Ya. I am keeping it. Even if i got $20xxx (which won't happen lol) thats still a 5000 loss in just a year and a few months and its payed off. Really not worth it to me after thinking about it. Plus i still need to buy a new rear end for my Z28. What i would really like to do is by a trick turbo kit for the 4.8. I just need money.
