Default Cam question

I have a quick question about a cam I am considering installing in my 5.3. The 5.3 is in a 72 blazer (not seeing any real high RPM's) and my question in simply this, the engine is stock for all purposes, would it be any help to install a Z06 cam in this or leave the stock cam. I have the springs already to support it but I was told I would not have the bottom end any longer. The new cam is about a 550 lift.

just looking for a quick answer please.

i would call a sponsor or 2 but i have the 2002 ls6 cam 550 lift , 218/204 dur (i think) on a 117.5 lsa. its a baby cam imo you'd have no trouble with it as long as you added better springs ls6 min. on the dyno my cam peaks about 5750 rpm that doesnt mean it wont pull to 6500. if your looking for low end torque you may want a better cam from a sponsor. what are your goals? how high will you be comfortable revving? is smooth drivability most important or big dyno #'s?

This would be a better choice.

But in the future you would probably be better off posting questions on PerformanceTrucks.net, just click the tab at the top of the page and use your LS1tech user name and password.

Can't recommend this cam enough for someone who wants more without turning their truck into a hot rod:

I would stick with the stock cam over going with the Zo6 cam. You'll lose the low-end power you currently have in exchange for top-end power with using the Zo6 cam.
Id go with a cam like thunderstruck507 or Fry_ recommended or on up to a 212/218 sized cam.

And sorry to say but my personal opinion is to avoid a comp cam core at all costs. It's worth the little extra to get a cam ground on a better core to prevent damage to the cam and lifters.
