Default Freon question.

Don't know where this goes but please move if necessary.

As I was doing my can swap my ac line busted and all the freon leaked out. I replaced the line. Can I just buy a can of freon and put it in to get my air cold again? Or do I need to take it somewhere?

Thanks.

Well if it was open to the air you need a vaccum pump and suck all the air out, then fill it with ac manifold gauge. If you don't have those two things take it to a shop.

^^^This, but I'd get a quote then watch some Youtube videos so you know what your doing and what you'll need, price the tools you'll need from Harbor Freight and then decide if you want to do it yourself or pay a shop.

Thanks. Gonna see which way is cheaper. This would only be a one time thing.

You should also replace the accumulator (drier).

doubt I need to. I had a spare if the part that busted replaced it within minutes of it busting. Was ice cold before it broke so I should be ok.

Good luck - you might get away with it. As I'm sure you know, the general rule is if air gets into the system, it's contaminated and so you replace the accumulator.

I'd spent the extra $25-45 for a new accumulator rather than hope it doesn't need it when you pay $100-200 to have it charged.
