Default "manual" transmission compatability

is there a sticky or thread somewhere that notes what transmission from dif cars are direct for to lets say a 5.3 from 2000 truck or ls1?

I know there is the adapter plate adventure :/

also whats the most viable that will bolt up. s10 4.3 5spd right? that bolted to an lt1 I used to have.

im about to embark on this expensive adventure and starting with the trans first.
I see the T56 fits but....its not cheap (ik none of it is) this might be the trans though. will be highly abused

I run a T56 behind a 2002 5.3L in the wagon in my sig. Pretty straight forward swap, Super stout trans. Not cheap as you say, but if your patient, you can find one pretty reasonable. (I just bought one locally out of a 2005 GTO for $500.00 with no bellhousing.) The CTSV and GTO variants have the more desirable 'triple cone" synchros.

For a manual trans the answer is always T56. That's why they cost so much. For an automatic the answer gets way more complicated.

You guys still didn't answer his question lol i want to add that the Nissan 350z transmission will bolt up with an adapter plate. It's six speed and cheaper than a t56

He asked what manual will fit a 5.3 or ls1. T56 is the answer. It also works with a 4.3 in a s10. It's also the correct trans for a Dodge Viper or a V12 Vanquish so overpowering it isn't generally a problem.

If you do find yourself hunting for a t56 to swap in then read the article I'm linking. It explains the differences based on the vehicle that it came from and even includes the gear ratios as a chart. It's only for the GM cars though so if you find one from a different make you'll have to find that info separately.
