Well fellas, it has finally happened. The urban legends and rumors have finally come true, a v10 ls engine is alive. My dad was able to buy two prototype v10 engines several months ago with the goal of bringing them to life like GM should have. The first engine was almost a complete long block and it was destined from day one to become a mild engine for his Tri-5. The second v10 is destined to be rowdy and we are going to see what a v10 ls can actually do! The past few months there have been a few pictures circulating around facebook of the first engine being built, well yesterday it finally happened, we heard what a V10 ls engine sounded like. We are very happy with the numbers it posted, especially since the cam is relatively mild for the engine and the extended china intake is less than ideal for our application but we were in a bit of a hurry to hear it run. There was will more dyno sessions coming up as we test out different intakes like dual throttle bodies, dual plenum, long runner, short...etc.
The specs on this engine are:
Iron block 456 ci
4.005 bore
3.622 stroke
6.125 gen 4 rod
11.2:1 comp.
230 intake 245 exhaust on 113 lobe
Untouched stock L92 style heads
Chicom intake
1st gen Megasquirt
605 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 519 ft lbs at 5400 rpm on 91 octane.
The second engine is getting a 4" stroke and will come out to 502", it will have a rowdy cam, all kinds of goodies, and a little forced induction as well.
The engine is pretty unique and it sounds nothing like a Viper v10, there have been a few people that think so but it definitely doesn't in person. The crank throws are actually reversed from the viper, they are alternating 54* and 90* and the firing order is definitely different as well, coming in at 1-8-7-6-5-4-3-10-9-2. Anyways here are some pictures and video for you guys to enjoy!
This is how it was purchased ( It has never truly ran since it was outside of GM, the original computer tune from the previous owner confirmed that. )
Is this the V10 from a few years ago that was put in an old Impala?
The V12s have been out for a while and I head rumors that a company was looking at selling billet v12 blocks but haven't heard anything lately.
You should compare notes with race cast engineering out of Australia. They're the ones making the V12 engines. You may be able to pick their brains on different things.
