Knock at low rpm in 6th?
I'm curious how much I can push the limits of 6th gear and low rpms safely. All stock at the moment. Below 55 mph I dont gain any mileage in 6th with the factory 3.73 gears out back, according to the dash anyway.
Seems to me, if I'm not gaining mileage, then the engine is lugging and that's not good.
What are the negatives of running too low? Knock? Starts pulling timing? Carbon buildup?
In some vehicles, too low of a cruising rpm creates bad frequency vibrations that disassemble your transmission like the Cummins with manual trans....

Stop bogging it and down shift... Vehicle??? 800rpm under a serious mechanical load while idling at low speed , sounds like buckin and banging City to me. Just curious is all.

I dont want to shift, just hunting for mpgs.
I havnt been loading it much at low rpm. I just simply noticed the lack of mpg improvement at low rpm so I just wondered.......
Even at 800 rpm it should have more power than a 2.0 4 cylinder, but probably way out of its efficiency range......
Somebody asked me once if I wax my car for more mpg.
