Exhaust plays a role as well. And also what the cam is advanced to

I’ve read that tuners can make the same cam sound different. My 218/227 or something isn’t far off, the single exhaust I think can also effect sound.

It's not the valve duration's themselves that determine how it sounds, its the overlap. So you need to know the intake and exhaust duration and the lobe separation angle(LSA) and that can give you the overlap but the overlap is usually listed with the rest of the cam specs. You could have a higher duration cam sound almost stock if it had the right overlap. 1.5-2 degrees of overlap is where they start to sound lopey.

Sounds cool, make the engine run worse in traffic though. Starts killing your torque.

I looked at his other videos and that car has a 5.3.
The smaller displacement will make the cam sound more aggressive, and iron blocks have a better tone than aluminum blocks. I've seen some Chevy Suburbans with TSP 216/220 112lsa cams that sound similar.

I agree it's likely in the tune, I didn't think the GTO had a 5.3 litre option??

It was an engine swap.
Heres another video of the same car. The title says it's a 5.3. I believe the iron block is the reason the tone is deeper.

I have a 222/233 cam in mine. I also had a 227/234. Mine doesnt really even lope. It did a little with the 227/234 though....not that much. I have a 5.3 too.

So there a setting in hp tuners you can play with called timing overspeed and timing underspeed for the idle. If you add more timing in the lower rpm areas it will make it "lope" like that even tho thats not a true lope. I was playing with that the other night and went from idling smooth like stock to shaking the car loping. You can watch the timing jump all around and thats whats causing that "lope". If I dial the correction back, the timing stays stable and it idles much smoother.....You cant even tell I have a cam when I idle it like that.
