Default Oil filters

AMSOil makes the best synthetic motor oil hands down. The numbers don't lie! I would use Royal Purple as a 2nd place. Also, I spent some time speaking on the phone with the AMSOil guru/encyclopedia rep. He said that most damage to an engine are the small particles that a non-synthetic filter won't filter.. I have a Mustang 302 and the best filter (Non-synthetic) is the tried and true FL-1A. I have purchased many synthetic oil filters to test them out. AMSOil, WIX XD, STP, Royal Purple and Mobil-1. I have a scale to weigh each one. I'm not sure if weight is a correlation to a great oil filter. I will post the weights of the filters this week.

Any links to test on oil filters would be great!

Thanks guys and gals,

seems most of the top filters are made by champion labs.....the differences would be minimal

I recommend any of the top filters AND a filter magnet

What is your experience with filter magnets? Do they help?

Lightbulb Thanks

Per Google:

Fram Ultra Synthetic have dual layer synthetic filtering material and way better performance. The weight of whole cartridge is 107 grams, which is almost 3 times heavier than Extra Guard.

WOW!! I will get one. Way to go team FRAM

Thanks for the link to the tests!

May have to try the Fram Ultra on the next oil change. I've been using the Wix 51522XP which is the longer filter (more filtration) for those with ground clearance like the GM trucks. The Fram XG3506 is the short filter for LS engines and the longer one (crossing with the WIX 51522XP) is the Fram XG3675. The Fram is 18 cents higher then the WIX on Amazon... I may be able to fork out the difference

I just learned about the FRAM UltraGuard Synthetic tonight. I have a 1992 Mustang I'm building and will be running the $9 (Amazon.com) filter. AMSOil for oil though. I would have liked to see AMSOil in the test for a base comparison. FRAM it is for me!
