Default Gen 4 6.0, to stroker

Hello everyone. I am a new member but not new to the forum.

I recently acquired a 6.0 iron block complete with all of the accessories. During my inspection and clean up I found out that the #4 intake lifter had turned in the lifter bore wiping out the cam and the cam bearings. So rebuild is imminent. Currently researching my options. I know that I will be looking at an aftermarket cam possibly from BTR. The stock cathedral heads I know are not going support my ultimate goal. I want 580 to 600hp on pump gas. I would like drivability as this is going into a 67 Nova Sedan. I use to dragrace the car but now that I am older I would like to be able to drive for weekend trips with my children.
The build:
cu. In: 6.0 or 408 stroker
compr: 10.5:1
Forged Crank, H-beam rods and CP forged dome pistons.
Cylinder heads: AFR 230
Holley low rise intake with 108cfm throttle body
My questions
First: Am I looking in the right direction, putting my money in the right areas?
Second: Does this seem like a good street able combination?

Hi 1929timer, I have a LQ9 with 243 heads worked over by Total Engine Airflow (TEA). The static compression is approx 11.5:1. I am running a camshaft designed by Martin Smallwood.
It runs on 93 octane pump gas. It runs very good . Very streetable. I would not use domed pistons. Flat tops allows the flame front to travel unimpeded. Better complete burn. You should be able to reach a high enough compression without dome pistons in your build. A 6.0l in a '67 Nova would be great! Mine is in a '71 RS Camaro.

The 6.0 would have to rev pretty high to make 600 hp. It might not be as "streetable" as you want. You can definitely hit 600 hp with the 408/AFR 230 combo. You don't need domed pistons though. I would use flat top pistons with valve reliefs. I doubt the domed pistons would be less than 12:1 compression in a 408. With the flat tops, you are still looking at close to 11:1.

You will still need a good sized cam...about a 231/239 duration minimum.

Why do you want a low-rise intake? Do you want to turn 8k rpm? The 408 would make the hp you want at 6k rpms. In that lower rpm range, a long runner intake would be much better. If you already plan on spending the money for an aftermarket intake, get a FAST102. The low rise would jut kill the power below 6k rpms.

Please explain the intended use of the 3/4 ton truck. You might want to think about building torque as a goal. As Ultinator said... a long runner intake will most likely be a better piece of your combo. Especially with the cam you mentioned.

Must not be much of a dome piston if your're only reaching 10.5:1. I know it's going to take a lot to reach your power goal on just engine alone when it comes to the LS platform. It can certainlty be done but at the expense of fuel efficiency and reliability.

Fast, reliable, and cheap. Pick two.
