Conical air filters

Default Conical air filters

So not trying to start a fire storm here but what is everyone using for a conical air filter?
Oiled like a K&N or non oiled dry type?
I'm looking for a new one and over the years I've used K&N but I was always careful to wipe the inside off excess oil and clean the mass air after a bit of the engine running.
Leaning towards the dry type at this time.
What does every body think?

I quit K&N years ago, but they still have a huge variety of sizes. I run Green filters now on a lot of different builds and they have been good.

Green Filters for the win.

Injen makes a good reusable dry filter.

I have no problems with an oil impregnated type filter (K&N, etc.) for a non-MAF application. I've used one for the carb'ed SBC in my '71 for 20 years without an issue. I won't use them in an MAF application though; it's just not worth having to regularly clean the residue off the sensor wires.

If you are getting oil on the MAF you are over oiling the filter.

Even a factory out-of-the-box K&N will, over time, leave a minor residue of oil on the MAF wires which will build up gunk over long periods.

Anyone can try this experiment themselves with a brand new K&N vs. a paper filter. Start with a freshly cleaned MAF for each filter, and then recheck with each filter after a ~10k mile interval. Use a clean white Q-tip to clean the wires each time and note the difference.

So I have never re-oiled a K&N.
So my long time LS6 swap in a 98 Wrangler last summer I washed it in Dawn dish soap and let it dry. Did not re-oil. So basically a dry filter.
Chasing a misfire so just trying to not to at throw parts at the misfire.
Going to clean the mass air tonight. With "real" mass air flow cleaner. In the past I used brake cleaner which I find out is not correct.

So my Wrangler is not a a off road type hot rod. It's our summer time around town cruiser and short distance car show rod rod. Although saying that we've had it on the Power Tour a couple of times. I did the LS swap in 2008. It has been flawless until late last summer. Just wasn't running like it always has. My code reader says rich on both exhaust sensors.
Folks ask me how is it off road? I say I've had the Wrangler on a couple of gravel roads as long it hasn't rained lately. No mud for me. LOL.
So I'm not worried about any rocks or even any dust.
But it does plow snow quite well. No rocks or dust in the winter. LOL.
