out of curiousity, why is it that they don't want people pumping their own gas there?

1.) NJ gets more tax money from self serve. most gas and oil is refined in NJ so it should be the cheapest in the nation...but it isn't. that's because there is extra money on the price tacked on to pay these gas station attendants and NJ gets even more tax money from income tax and extra gasoline taxes. with high gas prices, they tried to pass NJ to be self-serve only but a lotta people flipped (mainly the old and the women ). if NJ went self-serve, it would knock a significant amount of money off gas prices.
2.) NJ views that you are not "qualified" to pump your own gas. ever see those videos where dumbasses drive away with the gas hose still attached to their car (again, mostly the elderly and the women...i've seen MANY with stupid women) or somehow manage to spark the fuel and turn the gas hose into a flamethrower? well NJ tries to minimize this by mandating gas station attendants.
you pay more but it's safer. whatever, i don't have to get up so it works for me.

I use Sunoco in my Corvette because they are the only ones around here that sell 94 octane. All the other stations only have 91 octane! If I run 91 octane in hot weather I get detonation at part throttle because when I had my car tuned I had them put 3 degrees more timing in the bottom end for better throttle response.

well, i broke down and bought BP today. $3.11 for 93 octane which ain't bad considering i've been paying $3.15 for 91 octane at sunoco for the past 2 weeks. plus my new 5% off credit card knocked it down under $3. seems like a deal these days

I worked with a guy that used to haul the gas to the stations, he said that all the gas he delivered came fromt he same place, just before he put it in the thanks he would climb on top of the truck and add a small ammount of their "additive" to make it their own gas. Here we have sinclair, they actually refine their own fuel, I use only them when I can, ive compared their gas against others theirs actually has a blue tint to it looks like gas....everybody elses looks like its all watered down clear and ****.

I actually think its a very bad idea to not have people pump their own gas. Number one reason is that many people I see pull into the station and don't shut their cars off and some just hold their foot on the break while their still in DRIVE and just tell them to fill it up. The indians and turbins don't give a **** for safety either and don't enfore motor shut off (which it says to do right on the pump).
If people had to get out and do it themselves they'd learn a little more about their car and maybe take a glance at all the precautions and warnings posted on the pump.
And this goes out to everyone who uses cell phones while filling up, don't believe its a problem? Read this
Subject: SAFETY ALERT - Mobile Phones and Refueling Don't mix
What's the problem
The Shell Oil Company recently issued a warning about three incidents where Mobile Phones have ignited fumes while being answered or ringing during fueling operations.
What specifically happened
Case 1
The phone was placed on the car's trunk lid during fueling, it rang and the ensuing fire destroyed the car and the gasoline pump.
Case 2
An individual suffered severe burns to their face when fumes ignited as they answered a call while refueling their car.
Case 3
An individual suffered burns to the thigh and groin as fumes ignited when the phone, which was in their pocket, rang while they were fueling their car.
What should you learn from this?
* It is a misconception that Mobile Phones are intrinsically safe and can't ignite fuel/fumes
* Mobile phones that light up when switched on, or when they ring, have enough energy released to provide a spark for ignition
* Mobile phones should not be used in filling stations, or when fueling lawn mowers, boats etc.
* Mobile phones should not be used around other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust (i.e. solvents, chemicals, gases, grain dust etc.)
* Mobile phones should be turned off before entering an area where other materials that generate flammable or explosive fumes or dust is located.

i live in south jersey which gets a bad wrap from north jersey. if south jersey broke off, it would be a great place. we got all the casino money from atlantic city coming in, beaches, the pinebarrens, some of the best water in the USA...but north jersey RUINS the state. if anyone wants to nuke north jersey i'll help.

I have never been there but based on everything I have heard and read that right there is the biggest problem....especially when it comes to being broke.
Not only that, but some of the people elected are complete morons. I know it's easy to call a politician a moron, but they have some really "special" people there.

So?
They couldn't do that if they had to pump their own gas as they would have to get out...
