I also learned that the solution was to run a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner through it with my next tank. A little while after using the Techron my gas gauge started to work again and has been working ever since. I only use Chevron with Techron gasoline now.
Sulphur is the ultimate enemy among us petroleum refinery peoples. You wouldn't believe how dangerous these plants are for the simple fact we have to extract as much as we possibly can. We truck out dozens of 18-wheelers LOADED with pure sulphur every day, it's pretty cool, but it smells like ****.

We have a few units where we blast our gasoline/diesel with hydrogen, which creates H2S gas. This H2S smells like rotten eggs, untill it is strong enough, then it deadens your nerve endings in your nose. At this point you STOP running because you think you're in the clear (can't smell it anymore), and you just flat out die while you're calmly walking away.

Trying to get all this sulphur out is another part of what drives up prices. Not only do we have to pay more for even sour crude oil (sour = more sulphur, sweet = less sulphur), but we have to spend a **** load more in trying to get the sulphur out. Then as the price of sulphur extraction increases it drives up the prices of sweet crude. It's a viscious cycle.

Just thought I'd offer a little insight.

I tend to favor Mobil, but when there is not one around I try Shell or BP/Amoco. And when those are not around whichever it available.

I just recently switched from Gas City 92 to Shell V-power (93). I'm getting better gas mileage using the V-Power and the burnt V-Power smells better (as in closer the the burnt race gas smell).

I use BP/amoco or sunoco 94. about the only thing left other than spedway.superamerica 91, Murfey/wal-mart gas, giant eagle get-go, or citgo/holland oil, citgo is pulling out of ohio tho :-/. Oh we have 1 marathon that has turbo blue but its about 15 min away. At least its cheaper than most $3.13 for premium. hasnt been above that yet.

Must be a west coast thing, all we can get is 91 octane up in Washington too. 3.50 a gallon in Seattle.

I use only Chevron Premium and add a half bottle of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant and Fuel Injector Cleaner on each fill up.
