Why are LS1 F-bodies so damn expensive these days?

I paid 10k for my 99 SS with 31000 miles on it. The deals are out there to be found just like everyone else has said you have to be patient and look for the good deals!!! Good luck man!!!

Well I am not in any real rush to buy any car, my next car has to be the right care, it has to be an M6 and it has to have less than 70k miles on the odometer.
And it has to be cheaper than 11k...as of now however, I have a good running car to get me around, but I have just been having the LS1 fever, eventually it will wear down........when I get one.
I am in AZ, I just find it kind of ridiculous that people in AZ are charging 18k-25k for a Trans Am or an SS...the Trans Am being just a regular Trans Am and not a WS6.
I mean, I could get a 39k mile 6spd Vette 99' for like 21,900 and I am sorry if I offend anyone but if an F-body is the same as a Vette I am gonna go with the Vette
I just always thought F-bodies were the poor man's version of a corvette, which is why I want one. They are not expensive to maintain, the mods are cheaper, it is just as fast.
And an LT1 is pretty much a secondary option for me, apparently they are supposed to be dead cheap but not in AZ because everyone wants to charge a bajillion dollars for an LT1/LS1
If I find a decent LT1 for less than 6k with less than 70k miles on the clock I might jump on that deal.
I know LS1s are the better motors, but I need to know more about them, as far as their reliability goes. I understand their light weight engines (lighter than the LT1s because of the aluminum block) but would the AZ heat really kill the LS1 engine? I have heard and I am not neccessarily saying that I believe, that the LS1s don't quite last as long as the LT1s do as far as longetivity.
My theory is, any engine you take care of will give you years of service, unless its a Ford Pinto. Cause once I buy an LS1...I plan on keeping that sucker for a LONG time, try like 6-8 years more.
EDIT: Another thing I forgot to add was, its kinda funny when you think about how close a Vette and an LS1 F-body go in AZ. I have seen some Vettes to be cheaper than the F-bodies...and although that makes me tingle...it also kinda makes me sad. Except for the LT1/LT4 Corvettes, those are still in like the 15k range nowadays, but I wouldn't mind having an LT4 6spd for the right price.

It is now a heads/cam/nitrous rocket, only sprayed once. Dyno is over 500 for both HP and TQ, and she trapped near 120 before the spray.

Keep it.
Now that these cars aren't being built anymore, it's only going to be harder and harder to find a really nice one. If you sell it and ever decide that you want another one, it's gonna be damn near impossibile to find one as nice as our ultra low mileage examples (mine's at 13,600 miles now).

Has no one stated the obvious so far or did I miss it? Search the vehicles for sale section here on LS1tech. Most of the sellers here are realistic and not under illusions about the value of their cars. There have been some great buys available. You just have to be willing to travel.

But I think you're right, that for the most part people on here either set reasonable prices to begin with or they come down soon after.....

Sounds like my ride...
2001, 20k miles, sitting in a climate controlled garage, every single receipt, NEVER drove in rain, The 'underside' of the car looks like it just got delivered...
Still have the window sticker. Some guys go out of their way to both keep and maintain their cars as well as keeping EVERY single receipt for oil changes, tranny fluid changes, brake fluid changes, etc. This all adds quite a bit to the value if you go to sell your car... Being able to PROVE that you cared for it...
When I sold my bike (Honda VFR), As the guy was looking over the ride I handed him the 'folder' with all the receipts. (It was about 3 or 4" thick)
He looked through the folder for a minute or 2 and then damn near hurt himself digging in his pocket so fast for the envelope of cash for the bike.

I was also thinkng 03-04 Cobra, but some of the guys in here might eat me alive for saying that.
I am not a big Mustang fan, but I adore the 03 Cobras, thats when Ford was being smart.
As for the new Shelby GT500 or whatever the hell it's called...thats basically the same car as the previous Cobras unless I am missing something.
The 03 Cobras are underrated from what I heard, I saw some videos of them dynoing some insane numbers like 370rwhp stock...and some 383rwhp.
I was also considering the 350Zs as well, but I don't like the way they sound with exhaust. They sound too high pitched.

nobodys mentioned check the ls1tech vehicle classifieds! tons of cheap cars in there because the people here know what cars are really worth. dont bother looking at dealerships they always overcharge by like 5 grand.
