Default Why are LS1 F-bodies so damn expensive these days?

I tell you, I have been searching for months now on a decently priced LS1 Z28 or Trans Am, and all of them seem to be in the 16k-22k price range.

I can say that I am honestly quite disappointed and I am thinking about giving up on my search for an LS1 f-body for awhile. I don't wanna spend more than 11k for an LS1 F-body, hell even the LT1 4th gens are expensive as well.

The cheapest LT1 I found was a very nice Blue Z28 M6 with 68k miles on the clock, it was selling for 7500 and sold within a couple of weeks I believe.

The only good deal I saw for an LS1 f-body was a 99 WS6 6spd w/ 69k miles an dhe wanted $9900 out the door for it. It sold within a spanking 3 days.

I am starting to think that my only chances of finding an LS1 for under 11k is out of state, but in AZ it should be plentiful and not as expensive as they are. I want an M6 Z28 but I will not pay these ridiculously high prices for one.

Does anyone know why these cars have become so pricey, or am I just looking in the wrong places?

I would try out the classifieds but how do those work? What if the seller is in like NY or CA or something but he has a very nice car that I am interested in? Do any of the classified sellers ship their cars?

Sorry for all the questions but I am dying to know...you can see that I have LS1 fever...

EDIT: I forgot to add, that most of the cars that are 15k in AZ are all 90k+ miles, now I know an LS1 are strong engines but I am not sure as to how many miles they can go before taking the dump on you. I know LT1s last longer than LS1s...or atleast this is what I heard.

wow... must be looking in all the wrong places, i see tons of cheap ls1's... wait a minute, i own one! AND i live in AZ! got mine for 8k even, with 80k miles on it, and havent had a complaint yet! just keep looking, dont worry, you'll find your car sooner or later.

oh, and as for classifieds, they wont ship the car, you would probably be flying out there, meeting him, then driving the car cross country back home. but thats part of the fun, alot of alone time with the new car

LT1s have been around longer, so it's easier to say that they outlast LS1s. I ran my LT1 (TA) up to 170k I believe, still running strong. The only problem I had with that car was with the headlight gears and Opti.

I'm stationed in Idaho, but was willing to travel the surrounding states to find my car. You gotta be flexible! The only way to find out if a classied seller ships is to ask. They usually won't, but they'll make the accomodations for pick-up provided that you pay for it.

11k should get you a decent LS1, 98-00 with 70-90k miles.

I find tons of LS1s for 10-11k. You must be flexible and be willing to travel a ways to get it.

hmph well its just becoming quite difficult...

I found an 01' Z28 M6 with about 67k miles on it, the guy is asking 11,500 for it and he is in Phoenix I believe...I might go and take a look at the car within the next week or so depending on my freaking schedule.

I could maybe talk him down to....10,800? We'll see how it all turns out

Paid $10,500 for my SS, is in immaculate condition and was bone *** stock when I got it with 99k on the clock, STILL runs like a champ! The blue book was $12,800, so my loan value was working my way and I jumped on it. Thing is, you have to be ready to drop the cash, get a loan, etc. Good luck with that '01 Z!

Keep looking. You should consider expanding the range you are searching in.

See, the deals are out there.

When you have a set price range you need to adhere to, you need to:

a) be very very patient

b) be willing to travel for the right deal.

Now $11k will get you a lot of LS1's in NC....AZ, maybe not so much.

I paid $14,000 for my '98 Z28 in the sig. KBB was something like $12,xxx at the time. That was in 2004 though, and the car had 11,000 miles on it then. It was from the original owner, all documents included from the window sticker, bill of sale, first gas receipt, and every other receipt following. Car sat covered in a heated garage and never saw rain or snow. Still smelled new. All stock, perfect condition in and out.

I was happy with the deal. I am VERY, VERY picky, but even I felt the condition really did warrant paying $1-2K over book price.

91ChevyRS, you dont say where you are located but by your dilemma I can already assume Texas? You are correct, down south F-bodies and sports cars in general are priced very high...I paid 18K for my '01 Formula A4 with 17k miles....granted I think I could have found a better deal I jumped on this car b/c of the condition and the mileage, but for instance 2 years ago I found an M6 Trans Am last of the breed original owner for 17K with only 11k miles, this was an amazing deal but I ended up totaling that car My advice is if you want a good deal stick with the Z28 cars as they are the cheapest and the WS6 cars will be the most expensive. Dont ask why? but dont give up your search man, try autotrader thats where I found my car and I know you can find a car for 11K it will come along, BUT DO NOT SETTLE FOR AN LT1 wait for the LS1 or u will regret it....good luck
