I drive a car and it requires gas. I drive it until it needs more gas, then I fill it up again.

I hear you on that! But, I also have the ticker to worry about so it helps me to keep it in the garage when I am not out on the town for a reason or going to work.

It's not that bad either when you consider that fools pay $1.00 or more for bottled water and don't think twice about it.
$1.00 for 12 to 16oz of water and the water couldn't 'ride' them anywhere.

The 93 is about $2.90 to 2.95 here in north mississippi.
($3.25 per lb for the 'laughing' gas at the local speed shop )

Do you even know how much out of of every dollar you spend on gas is for taxes? (I LOVE the states that post the taxes per gal. on the pump)

Any clue what the oil companies average % profit is per dollar spent at the pump? (hint: single digit number my friend)

Didn't think so...

I have one neighbor that blames Bush for the the price of gas and a few more that blame the oil companies, Yet none of these fools have a clue what a 'stock future' or a 'day trader' or a 'hedge fund' is... Go figure...

60% of the gas station's price is the price of the oil, 20% is the cost to refine, 10% for marketing and transportation, 5% local shop expenses. Leaves 5% profit for the station itself....

you're right to an extent. the oil companies actually are screwing us, but in the refining department. there is no shortage of oil at all, there is a shortage in refining capacities. every year we need more and more gasoline but the refinery system is over 20 years old. they haven't expanded and they're in no rush to do so. while the profit is in the single digits after it's been refined, the single digit profit is considerably higher than it should be. this is why exxon and chevron and conoco phillips are posting record profits. they are helping jack the price of oil by manipulating the day traders. they're using an age-old refinery system they refuse to upgrade. THAT is their tool to increase profits, not increase profit margin.

the oil companies are still screwing us, just not in the way most people are thinking. if they doubled the refineries and therefore doubled gasoline output, prices would nosedive...but they won't because 9% profit off of 3 dollars a gallon is a helluva lot more than 9% profit off $1.15 per gallon.
