Is WS.6/ SS faster than Z28 / Trans am?
ok when l first singed up on fbody web sites, l asked this question and l said l wanted to get WS6 cuz they were faster but ws6 owner, SS owner and regular Z28 & regular trans am owners told me that they dyno the same and none of them faster than each other.. that SS, WS6 packages were just marketting..
so tell me guys, what is the truth.. l actually believe that WS6/SS = regular trans am /Z28. no difference on POWER!

Of course they will dyno the same. The ram AIR doesn't help when your not actually moving. Even when you are it will only be good for 5-15 HP depending on how fast your going.

Yeah anytime the cars gets a quarter mile difference it is probably due to transmission engagement (like a shift kit on an auto or a better manual driver), engine heat, magic at the engine factory, weight (as in the driver's fat &ss not the car), and the number of miles the engine has on it. My old Z28 was a lot faster after it topped 40k compared to near new.
Hell engine mileage alone can make all the world of a difference on two identical cars when you compare 30k with 2k.
Oh yeah, I bet a V6 suspension would do better at the strip as well. Then the Z28 followed by the 1LE (softer springs). When I swapped to Hotchkis springs my car did much more poorly off the line than with the stockers (that did include shocks). So if you have a 1LE SS vs a WS6 with normal TA springs you would also be sorta comparing apples to oranges.

NO difference in power between LS1s, including Corvettes vs F-bodies.
What makes a car quicker? Lighter weight.
Stripped down, hardtop Camaro Z28s with no-power-anything are the quickest LS1 f-bodies. Just because they are lighter. Then the 1LE Camaros and Formulas. The slowest are the WS6 Trans Ams and convertibles, since they are the heaviest.

Yeah but wax adds weight!!!
Oh wait, I guess it lets the air glide off of it more easily so it is more aerodynamic!

Yeah because they have a 350 instead of a "small" 346

When I was looking between the trans am and the ws6 package. I picked the ws6 for the looks not the hp. I have a bunch of friends that have reg trans am's and camaros. And they all pretty much got the same times as me stock if not better.

I hate to say it in the quarter mile I really think it is the suspension and chasis that makes the difference not so much the weight.
Harder springs and shocks poorer launch, I can tell you this from experience with stiffer rear shocks.
Convertible loses the chasis race too.

I thought the WS6 and SS had better suspension though, along the lines of the 1LE. At least that is what I thought for the LT1 cars. As far as WS6 and SS adding power, thats like saying you need to add a CAI to boost the HP, it's not worth much overall.

WS6 vs TA would be a drivers race, when I had my '02 M6 TA(stock down to the air filter) I raced a buddy in his 99' Ram Air 30th ann M6 also(he had a cut-out, flowmaster and a K&N) we raced from a 20mph roll and a dead stop and both times I won by a car.....they are the same car its all just for looks....if anything the bigger wheels and hood prob add a lil weight
