Default a/c and gas milage?

So its pretty hot and humid here so ive bene using my a/c around town my and gas milage is ****. i mean i look at my gauge and i would think someone was just pouring the gas out of my tank, turn the a/c off and it hardly uses any....

does teh a/c really suck that much gas? I hardly ever use it, actually this is the first few weeks i have ever used it and it just shocking i guess..

At cruise and highway speeds no, but around town it does suck a lot of gas.

How many gallons do you put in to fill up when you are on empty, because i get 225 to a tank on about 13-13.1 gallons.

My A/C is never off, I got 250 miles from my tank today when I filled it back up, it took 13.5 gallons. 210 miles were highway at 80mph, 40 miles were in the city.

It seems to affect my car quite a bit. I lose about 2-3mpg city with teh a/c on. Never tested it on the highway.

About 14 gallons....gets me around 240. I was talking bone dry is around 260. Something like that. I have been averaging around 16-17mpg in the city. Without the a/c going i get about 18-19. It does make a difference.

haven't had an all city AC tank in a while, but last time with AC on for a highway trip we got 27.3MPG, going 70-75 the whole way.

I think it may be due to the higher idle speed when the A/C is on.

Well I was trying to account for why people loose gas mileage around the city, but not on the highway. Your motor doesn't really see idle on the highway like it does tooling around town.

generally, a/c on uses 1/3 more gas.

Yeah, my gas mileage is worse with the AC on around town (I do about 80% city driving). I think it's more efficient (and cooler) than having the windows down over 50 or 60mph, though.
