$1100 for this? need help
OK, my car is throwing a code for a crankshaft position sensor. I heard the sensor only cost $35. Well, i told my mechanic that my car was throwing a crankshaft position code and without even looking at the car he said it was not the sensor, it was some distributor down there that costs like $1100 to replace! I dunno what to think. Does he know what hes talking about?

Don't look at that mechanic again.
Take your car somewhere else. The crank position sensor on your car is located on the 7 o'clock position at the bottom of your timing cover.
Go to Autozone and look for a '93- '97 Chilton's repair guide (or order it from Barnes & Noble) That will show you what I'm talking about. You can do the repair yourself if you know your way around a wrench. ~Joshua

He was talking about the optispark. 1100 dollars for a opti and labor is about right, but thats prolly not what your car needs. The opti spark is the number 1 blamed problem on a lt1 car, when usually its fine.

1000 bucks for an Opti change out sounds steep to me. Do it yourself it is very straight forward. You can do it with a new water pump and opti for under 500 bucks, with a new crank position sensor.
