Default Problems with '02 ZO6's??

I am tired of messing with Camaros because my work-load will not allow it anymore. I want a top-of-the-line performer without any of the work (I promise it's not because I'm lazy!). Does anyone know of any problems with ZO6's from the factory? I want to know what to look out for when I am looking for one...

I believe there was a steering column recall. Other than that, my dad's has given him thousands of miles of no worry performance.

EVERY car is going to have problems sooner or later, regardless of its price tag, or maker.

things get old, things break, and wear out... thats just how it goes.

and trading your "maintanance *****" GM vehicle for ANOTHER GM vehicle probably wont solve the problem too much.

My Z06 is much better built than my LS1 F-body was. The only problems that I know of are the column lock (as mentioned earlier), and the gas gauge is tempermental.

The column lock can either be taken to the dealer for a recall, or you can by a $50 column lock bypass and install it yourself.

If your gas gauge reads empty when you know you have gas, run a bottle of Techron fuel system cleaner through it and it will be fine.

As a former LS1 F-body owner, the Z06 is a HUGE upgrade. It's built better, it drives better, it's lighter, and faster. I had a 75 shot of nitrous on my TA and the stock Z06 feels faster than the TA spraying. Due to weight and gearing differences, it would take 380-390 rwhp in the F-body to equal the performance of a stock 02-04 Z06. The current record for a bone stock 02-04z is 11.7.

My only problem with my Z06 is that the female passengers keep leaving snail tracks on the seat.

Zaino leather cleaner usually fixes that right up the next day But only if you use it on the seat, not her.

Other problems to look for (based on personal experience):

Turn signals not working- the hazard switch/relay can get stuck and is a PITA to change.

The clutch fluid needs to be changed often if you run it hard. Get a speed bleeder installed.

Honestly anything you buy that you drive hard will eventually lead to **** breaking, when it comes down to it these cars were not ment to be drivin hard everyday, thats part of having a high performance car is keeping the maintance up on it, theirs always a civic

Hey, I agree 100% about high performance cars...It's simply not a perfect world where you can beat on things and nothing break.

but I doubt anyone would argue that the F-Body and ZO6 are the result of the same ideas and quality. The ZO6 is a vehicle that anyone can tell that things were thought out much better in terms of engineering. The F-Body (which remember, I still drive and love) is the result of simply sticking a great motor on a marginal chassis/suspension/driveline with marginal parts. I love working on cars, but I just don't have time for it right now...all the time I have is for routine maintenance.

I can tell ya that after driving the ZO6 this weekend, my SS, while still loved, just doesn't compare.

The biggest problem with a Z06 is how many mods an fbody needs to match its performance. I have 423 rwhp and i just slowly walk my friends' stock Z06s (My 12 bolt and roll bar aren't helping in the weight department but those things can really move)

That's not right. A stock Z06 will usually put down 350rwhp @3120lbs... a 423rwhp F-body should have no problems with that. Either you cant drive or theirs something wrong with your car.

well comparing hp doesnt do the car jsutice, STOCK stalled autos can run 11's which is faster than the average stock z06 driver can drive his car.

its true the f-body may be less stable than the vette but the idea of being faster than a car two times the cost is a danm good thing.dont get me wrong ,id own a zo6 if i had the money but i think the f-body is more capable of being a family car and a race car at the same time.plus we fit more hoes inside

Well my friend's Z06 weighed 3125 with him in it . I haven't gotten my car weighed but I'd bet it's at least 3500 without a driver. I would take him by a few carlenghts but I was expecting it to just be a blowout. Those cars are FAST and several people have gotten them to trap 116-117 bone stock which is what a lot of cammed fbodies do (including mine).
