knowing your limits and your car is always a good thing...especially in different weather conditions...i made it a point to be able to control a hydroplane if it were to happen again, and drifting in a open parking lot really helps you keep your cool if the rear were to slide loose...

If we tried that around here in my town, you'd have yourself a ticket from the local law enforcement.

Im 26 and Im generally the only one that will ever drive my car. I only let my 36 y/o cop bro drive it once alone. My friend that drove me 2hrs to pick it up still holds that over my head to let him drive it. Thats not gonna happen. I dont even like people standing around it....

I'm 17 and my car is an LS1 Z28. 6-speed. i really don't get why people are so against guys my age having an LS1. sure it's quick but if you're mature not stupid with it then its just as safe as anything else.
I don't think i have let anybody drive my car except for my dad and my cousin (27yrs old.)

im not gonna lie, i opened this thread thinking i was gonna see pics of a wrecked car... im glad i was wrong, very cool you let your son drive that. im 23 and only a few months ago did i finally get to drive anything of my dads. he has a H/C c6.
i bought my lt1 formula when i was 17 and never drove it cuz i couldnt afford ins. my dad said i could have the car if i paid for all of it, and since i was broke that rarely happened. but it taught me the value of my money and to respect the power i had.
if you let him get something like that though just make sure you keep a leash on him, dumb young kids hurt themselves all the time cuz they think they know everything... i know i did.

Bahaha...What sucks is it's a 52 dollar motor and takes an hour or so to do. Dealers suck.
I bought a 90 notch mustang with a nice little 306 in it when I was 16..It was ok. Then when I was 17 I moved up to a 99 z/28 with an m6 and that was fun...I miss it. Now I'm 18 and I've got an 89 hatch stang that'll go mid 10s on a small shot...Next summer once I ge the dart block and a fogger setup it'll go low 9s.
Never had an accident except for when an old guy back his van into my ford escort. Only time I lost control of a car was in my notch when I was doing about 65 on an off-ramp and for whatever reason, tapped the brakes at the exact same moment I hit a bump(Tree roots pushing the pavement up) and the back end came around and I ended up facing the wrong direction on the ramp. THere was no traffic so I just turned around and headed home for a new set of underwear.
I guess another close call was me driving my current car around on 195/60/14's and trying to make a pass....The rear end just swayed back and forth the whole way...Didn't get a little scary till I got to about 75 mph and was still sideays. But I kept it straight for the mostpart and didn't come close to losing it or anything.
It's all in the driver. I know a kid who got his g-body regal loose going around a corner at 20 mph and hit a fire hydrant...Just cause he really can't control a car. I know another guy who blew a headgasket in his stang running at the track, was pretty much facing the wall doing about 90 mph, and was able to pedal it and not hit the wall. For fun once I took my camaro out right after we got about 2 inches of snow and before they salted, and just drifted around the neighborhood...Great way to learn how to drive the car and figure out what it can do.

Hey I was fifteen when I got mine. I just went over to get my drivers licence in Ohio ( father stationed in Germany) and got my legal drivers licence. Now I just have to get it translated and I can go. The best way to do it is buy a V6 learn how to drive it and then put your built V8 in it.(thats me) The pros are you can drive the car and take your time building a V8. And with getting older you can afford it more and more. Got me a LT1 396cui I am building( just atkes time, we are not millionars that can afford everything at once

i got my camaro when i turned 17, now being 19 almost 20 and in collage, i have learned lots about having a nice car while being young. i take the upmost care of my car, and everyone is always telling me to tare it up and **** like that. then when i tell them how many miles are on it, and they see how clean it is, they wonder how. well if i tore the **** out of it everytime you told me to then the car would not be this nice.
I know when and where to do the right things on the street. there is always a time and a place.
ohhh and if anyone lets their son drive their car, and they come back saying that they didn't do anything, they did!! cuz i have done it! lol
I have been drag racing a 10 second nova for 4 years now, so beating the **** out of my camaro is point less.

I know what you mean about dads trustin their kids with their cars alone. My dad has had a Buick T-Type since 87 and the first time I drove it I was about 20. It had old tires and needless to say they got even more worn. Spinnin em changin lanes at 40 was fun.

Yep, I don't see anything wrong with letting younger kids drive or own V8 muscle cars. If the kid was brought up right they will respect it, even if he/she didn't have to work their *** off to get it.
I owned two super clean Camaros by the time I was 18. I worked my *** off for both of them but even if I didn't I still would have kept them in the shape that they are. Don't get me wrong, I did and still do some pretty stupid **** every now and then but, like mentioned above it's all about knowing your and the cars limits and not caving into peer pressure when your buddies want you to do donuts in the Wendy's parking lot.
Here's a good example, my sister just turned 16 and I had the oppurtunity to get a nice low mile '98 Z28 cheap. I considered buying it for myself as a toy and sharing my Silverado and the '98 Z28 with my sister. However after thinking about it, it is very clear she is a spoiled bitch and has no respect for anything or anyone. It's gotten to the point where I won't even let her drive the '02 Cavalier that I bought for my mother. Screw her, she can drive a $1,000 junker.

Heh. I got my car when I was 17 and never drove a stick before, besides a poor attempt in a friends SS (he got it when he was 16). I got my dad to show me. I'll admit I was intimidated jsut because I didn't want to stall in traffic. Now whenever I drive a stock f-body it feels too easy.

The first LS1 I had was a Black A4 T/A. It was very well modded all bolt on's plus a NX kit. My sis is two years my younger to the day an I would let her drive it to school all the time. I use to be very generous with allowing almost anyone to drive any of my cars. What broke me of that was a friend who I had know all my life wanted to drive my juiced 97 Cobra to impress his now ex wife so I let him. Sunday morning he called an said he backed it into a tree then Monday morning at work he told me Sunday night he blew the motor. What a friend never offer to help with the repair or nothing. Had to end up going to court an lost what I thought was my best friend over it.
