tell him to get an old rs with the 305 and a 5-speed. that's a good car for a young person. cheap, manual, and v8. and the motor isn't tucked four feet under the dashboard.
nobdy cares, im sure, but since i was 15, my progression of cars has been--
`87ford tempo, `91 honda crx, `87 cordia turbo, `90 300zx 2+2, `92 300zx tt (396bhp), `00 civic hx, `86 300zx, `72 240z (L28), `00 wrangler, `05 GTO, `90 240sx.
i'm 23 now. i might have missed a couple..

i started with an 82 supra, did 120mph+ stock. then did lots of suspension and some power mods, went faster, and would take turns good. then got my nicer 82 supra, did more suspension, more brakes, and more power, and my car was performing the same as many other sports cars 20 years newer. and now its down for an LS1 and full resto. the real fun is yet to come!
now i'm driving an 06 impreza. much, much, much slower, but its a wagon so its a good parts hauler for myself and local car club members, lol.

I'm with whatsaholden, get him an old RS or something fairly quick and cheap to learn on, then move up. thats what my cousin has actually, hes 19.

Giving a 17 year old the wheel to an F body is like giving 1 little piece of steak to a starving unleashed tiger. Either way you look at it, you are asking for troubel.

I've haven't been able to let anyone of my friends or anyone drive my car. My dad took it out one day, he was pulling out of the driveway when I was pulling in, and he had that "I'm caught" look on his face. As me and my buddy pull up the driveway I hear what sounds like about 4000 rpm... *******.

ive been driving since 14. when i turned 15 we were building our own house. my dad had a 5 speed porsche 911, gave me the keys and told me to drive it up and down the street. by lunch i was making fly-bys. he gave me the car soon afterwards! ive been scca driving since 15 so im very in control when driving. ive driven all of his cars up to his brand new vette and to this day, 7 years, have never had 1 accident. yes it is a maturity issue but i think some older people that did not have the privelage hold it against younger people.

Thats true, but a lot of kids these days dont have any respect for a car ot's power and the potential for that power to be dangerous.

I got my LS1 when I was 16...It was a big step up from a 3.4L Camaro. I've never had a problem with speeding or abusing the car.

Most important thing I have learned is there is a time and place for everything.

get a 3rd gen stick ..dont care if its a 305 or a 350 tpi car..let him LEARN on that first * i had 4 of them before my LS1* i rode once in an LS1 and then traded my 02 dodge dakote with 22K on it fo ra 99 Formy with 77K on it and never once looked back..

and yea i still do stupid **** but its about EXPERIENCE ..knwing what the car will and wont do..and theres only one way to learn that..
