I have read that GM re-designed the oil rings for the 02 cars. THey changed the oil ring from 9 to 13 # tension and used a Napier face vs. the standard. I am curious if it really matters or not. Sorry for all the recent polls and thanks for tolerating it
If you use over 1 qt of oil, post up how much you use, and what transmission type and year model.

here's the deal man. you're buying a used car. how much oil it uses and how smooth it is all depends on how it's been driven previously, not the tweaks from the factory. take that into consideration when looking more than what year it is.

I agree and refuse to buy a ragged out or beat on car. I will stay with a friend in Dallas for a week or so when I am looking to buy. She owns an LS1 specific shop that services DFWModified. I will rely on our combined experience and my ****-retentiveness to find a gem

The only thing OEM on this car are the axle tubes, glass, and sheet-metal.

My 02 LS1 doesn't use any oil in 3k plus miles, all I ever put in the car is 10w30 mobile 1. Even a summer of going to the drag strip it's still fine. Before the Camaro had 9k miles on it, I would go through a 1/4 to a 1/2 quart, but for the last 26k miles it has been fine.

Not all oils are = to be honest, some are shittier and sludge more.
Perfect example is when I bought my 95 TA, It had had 20-50 GTX run in it. I put in 15-40 Shell Rotella T. I had to change oil every 2-500 miles because it would break loose all the crap and keep filling the filter with sludge that the Rotella cleaned out. For the first 2 or 3 changes it was like dumping pudding out of my oil filter. After that, It was clean as could be for the rest of the time I owned her
