Default 99-00 LS1's...

Yes, I feel like a 110% *** and am praying I dont get banned for all my damn polls. That goes without saying.(lets consider this a expansion-pak to the 01-02 poll )

I already polled the 01-02 LS1 cars...soo....

I am worried that I will not be able to find an 01-02 Z in my price range (12-13K) and am wondering if the 99-00's are any worse on oil, ect. because I may consider a low mile 99 or 00 over a 01 or 02 with higher miles. Just curious how the 99-00's do, in comparison to the newer ones.

My 5.0 uses 1qt per 1K miles and it drives me pure nuts. Just trying to avoid that and if picking a certain year will give me a better chance, Ill try to do it.

If you use over 1qt, post up with the amount, tranny, miles, year.

if I do a **** load of short trip driving where I start my car, drive 2 miles, shut it off, etc... and do that for a majority of 3k miles it uses about 1/2 a quart...but with mixed driving, including beating on it, and highway trips etc....so basically how I always drive it uses about 1/2 qt per 5,000 miles, so nothin to worry about

Don't worry about the polls man, you are just like me when it comes to getting exactly what you want. Thats what this site is for!

I change my oil every 3K-3500 miles. I never add anything. I just swap it all out.

I don't burn that much. I drive hard and check my oil every 1000 miles or so, uses probably about 1/6 a quart at the most.

Buy any damn year you want, delete the pcv and add a breather or just add a catch can and you're oil burning issues are solved. There poll over.

Haha. I almost checked that cause it made me laugh. The most I have heard of an LS1 burning was 1/2 qt, and I'm sure there are some that burn more oil than that, but there are a lot more that don't burn any at all. Buy one!!!! You won't regret it...

15. 1999-02 cars had a different PCV system with the valve located to the side of the intake manifold

^this was taken from the year-year FAQ referring to the 98's. IIRC, 98 is the ONLY YEAR that everyone agrees is the easiest on oil/piston slap. Interesting...all fingers point to the PCV.

Yeah, I am decided 99-02 M6 and get a Trans Am, even if it is a 99' as long as it is clean and under 75K miles with an M6, im all over it I miss the looks I got in my 95 TA and if I can get LS1 powa! plus those looks I would nut myself.

But you use a 30 weight oil in Mobile 1 synthetic according to your other post...run a 5-40 M1 or another brand of oil in 5 or 10-30 and I bet you drop to a happy rate.

The 98' motors are the ONLY ONE's that everyone agrees used the least oil/had the least likliness to slap. I, however, would like a 99-02 and I already polled the 01-02's. If you want a 98 poll do it yourself. The last option is winning and I am waiting for a mod to give me a tongue lashing as-is, lol.
