gas mileage with a cam
#2
Well my previous car, 3500 stalled auto, 225 cam only, 3.23 gears, got ~23 on the highway, cruise set to 95.
My current car in sig, with these mods, UNTUNED on the way to the dyno to GET tuned, with about 600 lbs+ of passengers, used LESS than 1/4 tank in 126 miles, 60ish of it being hilly, curvy backroads, and the rest parkway at about 70-75.
Although I didn't check it by topping off the tank, you can get a pretty good idea how good that is, it's a 16.8 gallon tank, so if the gauge was 100% accurate, and I HAD used 1/4 tank, that would equate to 30 mpg! But it prolly was somewhere between 25-30.

I did not lose any gas milage with the cam. I did lose about 1-2 mph with the 4.10 gears. Everything else stayed the same. The headers actually increased my gas milage 1-2 mpg, so I guess it evened out the gears.

My gas mileage didn't change. Just need it tuned right. Putting a cam in it and not tuning it afterward is when your gas mileage should go down.
I get average about 18 mpg with 80% stop and go traffic. I can get 25 mpg a road trips.

Headers allow for better gas mileage due to the restrictive nature of the stock manifolds. When you remove the stock ones and put on the VERY unrestrictive aftermarket headers it allows the engine to breath better which makes it use less gas to function. However, as stated before in this thread if you don't tune your car after a header install than your car will be running very rich (flooding the engine with too much gas). This will usually cause a decrease in mpg until you become tuned. Sorry for the rambling just wanted to cover all the bases

Basic tune after headers cost about $150-$200.
After a cam it depends on the tune method. A dynotune is the best and cost $400-$500. A car doesn't really 'need' to be tuned on a dyno after a cam swap. Also some cams take longer to tune so the price varies with time too.
