Default Proper Break-In

Whats the proper way to break in a 2007 Corvette.... My friend has one on order and we will be driving it from Washington to Texas in December.
Also, the first mod will just be drop in K&N filters in the stock air box... Will it hurt any thing to put the K&Ns in before the car is broken in? Or should we wait till the car is fully broken in?

Thanks

break in usually is at least 500 miles, some people do 1000....just to let the brakes set right and let the internals wear in....after that people tend to open them up quite hard....a drop in filter wont hurt anything

Completely baby it for 1000 miles. Don't drive at one speed for more than 20 mintues. No hitting the brakes really hard just because you want to see what it will do. No 'flooring it' or jack rabbit starts.

I always change all fluids ALL fluids after a couple thousand because I am crazy like that.

I would completely look over the car before you even take it off the lot so you can catch any defects in front of them. Easier to make them replace it under warranty.

I remember I bought a new car a couple years back and it had some paint on the tail lens and it was just something you didn't catch at first.

The k&N will hardly do anything to it as it is....Might as well start modding ASAP. I would not WOT the thing until atleast 1500. Let the rings seat and more than several full heat cycles.

Chevy runs them ona dyno for a bit. So I don't knwo how necessary a break in is. I've owned 3 new cars...drove them all to around 50-60k..never broken them in...drag raced all of the and never had any problems. Also, the thing is on the warranty for a while..if something is going to break from a " improper breakin"...then it should break during the warranty.

well if your driving from washington to texas thats like what 600-1000miles right there? well first thing i would do is change the oil at 600 miles bc during break in there will be some metal in there just from the normal break in, so when you get back to TX then change the oil and also the tranny fluid just so you know its all fresh fluids in there. im sure you know only 93 octane gas or 91 whatever is in your city, but thats all that needs to go in there. But ive heard of some people doing WOT break ins i wouldn't recommend that but its your car..

Ummmm... So where is all this research data? That is weird. He talks of this research but I don't see any documentation or third parties argeeing on this one.

You can't just trust every tom, dick, and harry esp with a web page.

I've always been a believer in running it hard when you first get it. I was taught before I could even drive to break them in by going through all of the rpm's as much as possible, and changing the oil within 500 miles 2 times. My dad always had good luck doing this, and I've only done it once for my own car, but it runs great with absolutely no problems! The oil changes might be overkill, but it sure can't hurt anything either.
