Default Headers+cutout, or just cutout?

I have seen quite a few people who weld in a cutout right after the headers, or at the beginning of the Y-pipe. I was wondering, would it be better to have the cutout after after-market headers, or just leave the stock manifolds on and run the cutout? I have seen both ways. If I do an electric cutout, is the after-market y-pipe and catback a neccessity or just a waste of money? I would be racing with the cutout open, and the above scenario is for racing only.

It really comes down to funds in my opinion. If you can afford headers, then of course get them. You are going to make more power, your car will be louder (and sound better if thats your cup of tea )

If funds are tight, and you just want an inexpensive power gain, put a cutout on the y pipe.

For the 1 3/4" headers, will the stock Y bolt up, or would I have to buy the matching Y-pipe for the headers and then do the cutout on that?

You will have to get a matching y pipe. Or you could do something like true duals with dumps.
