Default Roll Racing and Stock Rear End.

I was wondering, how is the 10 Bolt Rear End at holding power from a roll? I was thinking about buying a SS, and was wondering if I would be able to keep the rear by doing rolls, with say h/c making right at 400rwhp.

I would imagine it would hold better racing from a roll as opposed to launching it from a stop.

Running from a roll is much easier on the rear than sticking a launch at the track. Then again, nothing throws you back in your seat like a nice, hard launch.

That's what I was thinking. Is there a chance that the rear would break under 400whp with the stock rear? Also, what is the best MPH?

I haven't had a problem with my car making 420rwhp. Granted I've only been on Nittos, and they'll spin going into 2nd. My fear was that I'd break slamming it into 3rd at 80mph and lose it then, but hasn't happened. I bought a 12-bolt anyways for safety (and so I can run a better tire to actually launch). I just need to unlazify myself and install it.

Yes, there is a chance. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Generally speaking you want to start at 4k rpm or higher in the lower three gears to get a decent jump.

Don't race from 60mph in 3rd...not fun to get your *** handed to you by two supercars you should've run with (Lambo Gallardo and Ford GT)

Ive got 600 to the wheels (dynojet). The rear end has lasted so far, 3yr and counting... Im still on the stock 275 and dont run a sticky tire. I was told as long as it spins and dosent grab it should be fine... so far so good...

Good to hear. I would eventually consider the rear, but would like to do h/c first off, with all the little mods, then do a rear-end with n20 shortly after.

That is exactly what Im up too. I know with those power levels Im bound to get kickout after one pass so Ill buld up the motor the way I want it then focus on a stronger rear end and some phat azz 335 or something wild like that!

Racing is from a stop rolls are for dinner....

but my ten bolt has gone through 4 strip passes and two of them a 3000 and 4000 rpm launch you should be ok from a roll

From a roll you should be fine, unless you get some sticky-*** tires and do 3 to 1 drops at 30mph in an A4 all day long...I think that feeling is as good as a badass launch, maybe better

Still beating on my 10 bolt with 446rwhp/411rwtq and Nittos, I also have 4.10s. Oh, when I spray it the number jumps to 500+rwhp/600+rwtq I don't know how many times I have banged through the gears and did 10 sec burnouts and launched it as hard as the tires would hold at the track. I guess the Nittos are keeping it alive, but I have been pleased with how it's held so far.

Oh....forgot to add this....if your in an m6 with the stock 3.42s then one of the sweetest spots would be to rev match at 65mph and drop to 2nd, the other guy better have his **** together if you do this. From a slower roll 30mph in 1st was my favorite.

You've never turned a 1.6x or better 60', have you? Nothing I can do on the street has compared to that. I can't imagine the guys going 1.2 and 1.3x.

On the street , you should be ok. The tires would be the saving grace as they would break loose fast.

You'll be fine on the street. I broke the rear end out going to second on the strip on street tires. The tires just hooked for what ever reason and she broke. This was on a M6 car. I don't know the numbers on my car but this was done with minor bolt ons.....I did have richmond 3.73 gears. It wasn't an install flaw. The gears had probably about 20K on them and the wear pattern was pretty much perfect when they were pulled out.

It's a crap shoot, I have a buddy who has done 5K rpm dumps with drag radials with a 10 bolt in his Formula and it has held up for years. I had mine break just driving home from Florida due to bearing failure. I have a Moser 12 bolt now and love it.
