This is from the latest issue of C/D:

I know this isn't quite the same, but something to think about.
While driving the Benz, we noticed greatly diminished radar range, which instantly returned to normal when we held our Valentine One out the side window. Mercedes spokeswoman Michelle Murad says all GLs with the optional three-zone climate control, included on the test car, have “infrared glass,” which has a metallic film to reduce solar heating of the interior. The film also blocks radar and laser signals

The only way you could make the car invisible is to have the special glass AND a paint job. I am sure that the special paint which would have to absorb serveral spectrums of waves would cost too much and the flat/non-gloss paint would be hidious.

The ZR1 front windshield is different than a std vette one. It's has an amber hue to it if you look at it from an angle. Radar diffection? I don't know. UV protection? possible. It does has something in the glass though.

Actually the cars design is why it was hard to ping with radar OF THE TIME . With Lazer you can hit the small forward face of the car but back then you'd almost never hit the small area available to get the bounce back to the radar to Actually detect the cars speed . When the Radar hit you back then it hit the largest flat space available. That was why they always hit the car head on or straight from behind . As far as the windshield , it's not that it ABSORBED but because of the angle it deflected the return signal .
. It's not that you can't hit an angled target with a radar to know it's present , such as a submarine, but if there's not enough or big enough flat area to target for the speed calculation to be accurate.

Fun trivia to add...16 years later...about Vette's & radar...
The C4's had the radiator at a ~14 degree angle to deflect radar away and give a poor return.
Back in the 80's a typical car would return enough radar to have its speed detected at ~3000 ft.
At that time the C4's angled radiator, helped enough radar detected the car at ~1500 ft.
The C3 had a similar poor radar return from the front and similar stealth in that era due to its sloped radiator.
