Default WTF, wont crank!!?

Well, I went to fire up the TA today and turned the key and NOTHING, no try, no clunk of the starter, NOTHING! I pushed the clutch in a few times, made sure it was in N and tried again...nothing. I removed the key and put it back in. Fired up like normal. It has done this a couple of times randomly now. WTF!? Im worried

your new name is stilling throwing me off. next time it does it..check the dash for the security light being on. if so its the vats system. vats is a piece of **** anti theft that gm thought was a good idea, till the resistor in the key gets fucked up and then your stranded. Its happened to me once, i'm fairly certain someone with hp tuners or the sort could tune it out.

Yeah, the dash light (red thingy!) was blinking and IIRC I had a solid SECURITY on the dash cluster. I have a spare key JUST MADE! Do you think its my key (I was using the old one) or the VATS itself? The chip in my key (old one) looks just fine to me. Could it be jacked up and I not know it?

This is a very, very common problem. Wash your key really well. I did, and it's never happened to me again.

Man, good. I was freaked out, but my key is SPOTLESS!!! (old one, have only used new key ONCE! to see if it worked. It did. I will pick it up and swap it into use immediately).

Hmm...I've had this problem twice but all of my electrical stuff goes on like the CD player but the engine doesn't make a sound and no attempt is made to start the car. Could this be the same problem? I'm almost positive no light comes on I usually notice things like that.

Where is that? Pumping the pedal did nothing, removing/replacing the key was the X factor.

its on the clutch pedal arm. its a sensor thatll pick up the magnetic frequency of the other sensor mounted on the firewall when close enough.

Okay guys, I swapped out keys. BIG DIFFERENCE!!! in how the metal band on the chip looked. Here is my lame *** drawing, but scale between the 2 is accurate. (Viewed with key layed flat on table./side of chip viewed).

Use a pencil eraser to clean the resister on the key, and if its just the spare key it may just be an iffy resister
