hmm, that sucks, put a STOCK MAF back in!! that will NOT help you at all, if anything it can mess some things up. The ported TB is a good mod, its good for about 4-7 rwhp, according to some dyno graphs I have seen

The descreening of the MAF is very controversial, I have descreened mine with no ill effects whatsoever, just don't over oil a k&n and makes rue your filter is good and you'll be good. Although the screen is said to make sure the air flows smoothly. I wouldn't worry about it.

Descreening the maf can lead to lean conditions. Like Ls1camaroguy said, you forgot the best and imo the only good free mod, ported tb. Theres alot of discussions on here about the pros and cons of free mods involving the maf. Just remember they are free mods, you get what you paid for.

Even if the porting of the MAF did work, it would get you barely any horsepower, just port your TB for the time being, and if you have any issues with the ported MAF, then get an un-ported one to replace it. hopefully it will not cause any issues, but I would recomend that you get a paper (fram) filter instaed of K & N. K & N has the whole over oilig issue and they do not filter that great in my experience. I have found small dirt and particles that my MAF screen caught after they got through the K & N filter. went back to paper filter and have had NO issues. Also if you think your gonna get a lot more horsepower out of a K & N, the power gain probably wouldn't even show up on a dyno...

^^ ha, or maybe you want to believe that it does, so your brain is tricking you, those mods that you did would be extremely hard to to notice IMO, but as long as your happy, thats all that is important. if you want REAL power gains, consider getting long tube headers and true duals or ORY, or if you got hella money laying around then also consider getting a new Cam, and maybe a professional tune, those will show super big gains

i descreened mine with no neg. side effects..but looking back i would not have done it again... its not worth the possible side effects for .025hp....
although descreening is reccomended if u run a dry shot
the best free mod is prolly porting your TB...

Also the throttle bump stop mod is worht while, or at least checking.
The FRA is good if you plan on high speed or roll racing. But a bad idea if you plan on proper 1/4 mile action from a dig at a track.
Any gain you picked up is probably from false readings from your MAF, this will trick the PCM and lean out the a/f. On a stock car this will give a slight increase in HP, although a tune would achieve the same affect.
However when you start modding you will run the risk of running too lean without a tune.
The screen was there to create a laminar flow for accurate readings, with it gone there is no laminar flow and thus readings will likely be inaccurate. The TB by-pass is pretty worthless, but won't cause any harm. And even swapping to a 85mm MAF (stock is 75mm MAF) on a 470+rwhp setup will only likely yield 3-5rwhp. So on a stock motor and as porting as not yeilded anywhere near the same area as a 10mm increase in MAF it was probably worth in the region od 0.0x rwhp.

porting
on a stock tune the ported maf does lean it out a bit.causing a hp gain.i done the same thing and could notice better throttle response and a harder top end pull.but after installing an aftermarket tune it was to lean.i started about an identical thread just after doing mine.half the guys that will argue are just going by heresay.and probably never tryed the mod.ive learned most of the people on here are no it alls.and pay someone to work on their car for them.its not in your head my car was also more responsive after the porting.when you do the headers its gonna run to lean so you may wanna find a stock maf just in case.

Take the maf screen, put your hand on the back side of it and blow through it. Now take the screen away and blow on your hand. Feel the difference?
!MAF Screen works IMO. (my maf is descreened)

a guy that i work with has an 02 ss and he bought a slp MAF last year.. i descreened mine and then a few weeks later he descreened his (the slp one).... i havnt had any problems, but just the other day he was noticing a slight hessitation and his rpm's kept juming up and down... he put the stock one with the screen in and is now running great... (im guessing the colder air may have something to do with it)
why is it a BAD idea for dig races?... i can see where it would offer little or no gains in that specific situation but not really a bad idea....
but ya it deff is good at higher speeds and roll races...
