HA HA! I drove my car close to 400 miles over the weekend getting the new gearset broke in. Now it can rest til nice days on the weekend and the occasional drive to work

I'm at 47k now and I really dread the approaching 50k mark

Yep, who cares what year it is. The older and cleaner it is, the more impressive, IMO.

Agreed, I love driving the car, but then I think about how clean it is and how much time I spend making it look like that. I picked my SS up at the beginning of may with 11,998 miles and as it sits now, its got 12,300 and will sit that way until May. I'm used to it though, I've also got an 88 Olds Cutlass Supreme Classic with 10,1xx miles that was only driven 5 miles this year. People think I'm crazy, but I just like knowing that I own them.

Wow, looks like I found somebody like me! People always think I'm nuts for letting my F-body sit in the garage most of the time. They think it's a waste because I'm not having fun with it. They think it'll rot and fall apart because it sits so much. I disagree. First off, I follow a proper maintenance schedule/routine for a seldom driven car to avoid deterioration. Secondly, to me, since I only drive the car about 800-1000 miles per year, it's special and fun for every mile. Like you, I'm happy just knowing that I have it. Going out to the garage and pulling the cover off is always fun. I feel better knowing that the car is being preserved rather than facing the harsh elements of daily driving in northern IL with the 75 mile round trip commute I have.

That Cutlass sounds very cool. I used to have an '86 Cutlass Salon back in the '95-'96 time frame. It was no show car like yours though, I bought it with 76,000 and sold it at 97,000. The 307ci V8 sure didn't make any power, but it was still a nice car. And being RWD made it fun in the winter.

There's a guy I work with that's got an '86 Regal Limited with 16,000 miles on it. Also the 307ci V8. It's Rosewood with the Stage I rally wheels and Limited interior. It's in near perfect shape and still smells new inside. I've tried to buy it from him over the years but he won't sell. If only it was optioned with the LC2 turbo 3.8L, it'd be worth a ton in that condition.....

Sure my camaro has low miles but that is not from fear of driving it. Weather has it garaged 1/3 of the year and it's purpose is for the sheer joy of driving it.

Also have 3 other vehicles to get their fair share of drive time. My 92 truck has 47k due to how often I need it.

I bet I get as many looks with my 140K ride as any of you do with your sub 20K rides. More in fact, because I'm out more for people to see it! I've never understood the mentality behind not driving a car. Do you make a great looking sandwich just to set it on the table and stare at it? Hell no! Yeah, these cars are great, keep some of them in pristine shape. Once you hit 20k or so, however, it's not going to make them that much more valuable than a 40K or 60K. Seems like some people are afraid their cars will fall apart with some miles on them. My car had 50K on it in the first TWO YEARS. Apparently someone liked driving it as much as me! I put on 12K in 8 months. I'm going to drive the hell out of it and enjoy it. To each their own, in my opinion it's just a waste.

I have put 115,000 miles on mine in in the last 3 and a half years it has 125,000 on it now. I bought it to drive. It sees the red line every day. I'll probably never sell it. I figure it is just an on going hot rod project till it falls apart. It has been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Blew the stock clutch at 77,000 miles and was surprised it lasted that long. Out side of regular maintainence that is the only major repair on it. You might as well keep driving them they won't be worth anything for a least another 25 years...

My 2002 has 81k on it and is parked outside with winter tires on it as I type this. It's a daily driver.

Those are some low mileage cars. That guy with the GNX is sitting on what will likely become one of the top 5 collector cars of the '80s. With that sort of mileage, it'll be worth a fortune!

For me it's not about value. If it was, I wouldn't have a Z28. I'd probably get a 30th ann WS6 with 2,000 miles on it.

It's all about condition. I'm sure you do a great job of keeping your car looking good, but with 140K miles there is no way it's in anywhere near the condition my bad-weather-free 14K mile car is in. When I see my car, it's like it's still sitting on the showroom floor. When I drive it, it's always like the very first time.

I don't want this car to show weathering. That means limited use when you live in my area. I don't care what anyone says, you CANNOT keep a daily driven car in any sort of show condition, period.

Also, I have plenty of fun with the car. Everytime I drive it I have fun. It sees regular WOT action.

Bah, I have 75K on my car, 30K isn't bad, then again, mine spends more time at the dealership than my driveway (well, not true, I have had it 20-30 days and its only spend 4 of those at the dealership for non-ruitine repairs/diagnostics so far counting today). My 95 LT1 got 170K miles on it though!!!!!!!! LT! FTW! and 140K on the original 4L60E tranny!

if you saw my car you may change your mind, its not MINT show, but I bet that if I detailed it professionally it wouldnt get sneered at at all! The car LOOKS mint, and after GM replaces everything mechanical it will RUN mint too, lol (I hope it doesnt come to all that though, arg, im brooding waiting for them to tell me what all is wrong with it. Dammit, its like having a child, and I dont want any comments on why my child is black and the girl im talking to is white.)
