wow... ur lucky. in VA, u go to jail for every mph over 90 - if the cop wants to be real hardcore.

but yea, as with everyone else's advice - get a lawyer. those tickets are gonna be a real pain dude.. reckless alone is harsh. gettn anything dropped, even if its just one charge, will be worth the lawyer cost. i almost got a reckless and it wuld've cost about 9 points just by itself...not to mention the officer wrote me up for speeding as well (tac on another 3 points, plus the 3 i had from sept., and the 3 from back in may).

hope this info helps out.. of course, the point system may be different in every state. this is just my own story.

I am in virginia and i have rarely seen anyone taken to jail over it. I think the cops get more joy out of intimidating and harrassing people then actually doing anything. Unless they are a criminal of course then they just seem to wanna avoid them altogether.

I agree with those who say lawyer up. In PA anything over 30 mph over posted is an automatic suspension I believe.

Lawyer.. and a good one, otherwise you're going to get your liscense suspended, and your insurance will either triple, or drop you. If they drop you, you'll have to find someone to pay out the nose for full coverage since the bank that issued your loan will repo your car if you don't. You can't just get liability.. unless you own the car outright.

Thanks for all the replies. I did get a lawyer who I'm going to see tomorrow. I talked to her on the phone and she said they can only charge me with one of the offenses. For example, they cant charge me with speeding and reckless driving, it has to be one or the other. She also said I would definitely be looking at points, she said she could get it down to 2 or 3 and obviously I will have to take driver improvement classes. The fines themselves she said she could drop to around $500. This is all just speculation until we get everything sorted out, but that's the way she's seen similar cases go in the past.

So my friend got a ticket back in june? july? Well he had heard that if you write a check for like a dollar or two over the limit they will send you a refund check back in the mail and as long as you dont cash the check it wont go on your insurance...he was wrong, dead wrong. His insurance went up 100 bucks from one ticket. I think it was like a 75ish in a 50-55. He is 19 also. Try investing in a cop radar. Stick to roads that are not regularly patroled by cops. I live in Kansas so lots of backroads that are actually decent roads...never cops around

I think you are going to get hammered...signing or not signing the ticket in Illinois means nothing...Everyone who dont sign the ticket gets off..I dont think so. The insurance is what is going to kill you...I would be surprised if they dont drop you all together. They do not like insuring cars like ours for that reason..if you took somebody out at that speed, im sure they would max your liability limits with ease.

BTW..In Illinois you would have gone to jail if it was a state trooper..they dont F around.
