I really wanted an M6 when I was car shopping but I had the whole "too good of a deal, this car is too clean to pass up on!" deal happening. So I bought my '99 A4 a year ago, and only up until recently have I accepted it for what it is, and stopped considering one day posting up a For Sale/Trade post. No mods yet, but within the month I should be starting, and taking that into consideration, I think the A4 will be ok. Nothing else I drive is a stick, but I still get my thrills from the Z, espically since the others are trucks.... Now if the car was an M6 to start with, there's no doubt in my mind that I would never consider swapping. I'll have fun with my car, but whether it sees the track or not, I'd still rather have a stick. But like I said, at this point, it isn't worth it to go THAT out of the way to get a car that is.

There is no feeling quite like leaving off idle and getting a 1.50 60' time.
What are your overall goals for your new project?

I have driven both. If i was into freeway running and that sort of thing i would definately go with a 6 speed. But for a daily driver weekend warrior type car auto in my opinion. Get a decent sized stall and i dont think you will have any regrets. The one thing i would keepp in mind in to stay with a 4 speed for a daily driver.

I have a buddy w/ an '01 Camaro...same mods as mine except he an auto and has 4.10s. One day he drove my car and said the feel/experience was completely different than his, and that it even pulled harder with the 3.73s. So what's the lesson? Get what you want...screw what others say, they don't have to drive the car

^^haha, I think he will get what he wants, he just wants some opinions...so heres mine:
I wanted a m6 when looking for my car but I also ran into one of those deals I couldn't pass up. It was the only black SS on chrome ZR1's with decent mileage and a decent price that I could find within 500 miles. When I first got the car I really didn't care if it was auto or manual, I was 18 and the car was freakin' badass! But as I got used to it I again longed for an m6. But then my trans took a dump so I got to get a fully built 4l60e with a 3000 stall. I have loved it ever since! My next car is still going to be a manual, but a stalled auto is pretty fun!
cliffnotes: I don't think you will regret getting an auto unless you leave it stock.
btw, if your keeping the vette, I say get the auto, so you can have 1 of each...

It's all about what YOU want for your car. If I was going to turn my car to a track queen an auto would be in it. but for me on the street my M6 is the only way to go FOR ME.

mine was a auto, i swapped to a 6spd. Best decision i ever made. The car got a lot faster after the swap. I DD the transam in the summer and get stuck in traffic. I have a stage 4 clutch and its easy to drive, so no reason in my mind to go to an auto.

Take the same car with a 10 bolt a good stalled auto will almost always be faster at the track.
As ya know I cut at least 12 1.50's in my Iroc and at least 30-40 1.6x with the 3.73 geared 10 bolt in my Iroc and its still together now.

let me fix this for you..... there you go........
Kelly,
i never looked back when i bought my 6 speed. i knew i wanted one. so when i was car shopping, the first thing i looked for when i pulled up to a car lot was the boat oar in the middle of the console. if it wasent there, i walked away, i didnt care how nice of a car or how good a deal it was. i knew i wouldnt be happy unless i had a 6 speed. i drove a few A4's in the beginning of my hunt and was never happy. i drove many 6 speeds after that and fell in love. yes my leg gets tired, yes stop and go traffic is a bitch but damnit Kelly, i just didnt have as much fun behind the wheel of an A4. i think the deciding factor should be your opinion. which do you like? can you deal with bumper to bumper with a clutch? its all up to you.
