Default Looking to buy a truck, what lsx in what year trucks?

I don't see an lsx truck section on here. Don't some the of the gm trucks have the lsx but iron block? What year did they start? I see a nice looking 98 v8, but I'm wondering if I should just borrow a few more dollars to get a newer model to get the better motor and/or chassis or whatever. What is the best year used truck to buy. I was considering a toyota, but not even coming up at all in my under 10 grand autotrader search, wow.

EDIT: BTW, I'm looking for something with a plow, maybe why toyota not coming up at all.

get a 00+...its not so much the bottom end of these vehicles...as it is other parts of them and the weight factor....you can throw a cam in, port your heads and upgrade your valve train...bolt ons and a good rearend.....youll be lookin at a pretty damn quick truck....look up "rajun cajun" in the truck area, hes a mod.....good guy...from my area of the world

which size motor are you talking about? I see a 5.3 here. I know you can get a 6.0 that I think is the lsx iron block maybe? is there a 5.7 in the trucks or another size? which size are the lsx? And is that right, 2000 and up?

5.3 is the largest available engine in the 1500 LD, 1999 to 2002. Once the SS Silverado came out, you could get a 6.0. Aluminum blocks for the trucks only started to show a few years ago. The engines are very similar to LSx engines though.

People knock the pre 99 truck motors some, they may not have the same peak HP numbers, or RPM range, but they had as good of torque curves. Also the new trucks often have cold start knock.

If you are looking for a plow on the truck, unless it is a 2500, HD2500, or 3500, you probably won't find one with the hook up already on it. Lots of aftermarket routes though for you, if you find a truck without one.

i know you make this distinction in that you call it a 1500 LD, but there is one half ton besides the SS that came with a 6.0, the 1500HD.

99-02 you could get the 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0
My friend had a procharged 4.8 that was pretty mean, kept right with my old Lightning I had for a while. The 5.3 is a bit more receptive to mods. And yes the 6.0 is an Iron block.
My choice would be going with the 5.3, doing a little headwork, add a nice cam, and some exhaust and have a fairly quick truck. Also, not sure if you're wanting to stay low wieght, but don't the stepsides have a fiberglass bed?

Didn't read any of this thread(sorry, kinda lazy), but you mentioned you didn't see an LSX truck section.

Thats one of the partner sites that branched off tech. check it out, plenty of good info, and as with all the other sites(tech, ptnet, SSU, mod motor tech) your username and password works on there.
