Alright everyone, here's the deal.
I will buying a car at the beginning of this week. I have found two low mileage Camaro's in my area that are of interest to me. One is a 1998 Z28 Convertible 6-speed with 22k. It is the Gold color, so I know it is a pretty rare car. The guy wants in the neighborhood of 11k for it. I also have found a 2000 SS convertible 6-speed with 19k on it. The guy wants around 16k for it. I will be using this car for a daily driver so I'm thinking save some money and buy the Z, but I really like the look of the SS and the price difference is not a very big deal for me. I know this question has been asked a million times but what's your input?
Thanks for your input!

Personally, I wouldn't go with a convertible for a daily driver. You'll be afraid to park it anywhere since it's much easier to break into. And some people would shred the top just because they can. That being said, I would go with the Z28 for that big of a price difference. Normally I would go with the newer car but that's a pretty big spread in price.

oh dang although I actually like that gold color it really needs the black contrast. In that case if you got the cash to spend pick up the SS. But thats just my opinion do whatever you like best.

Get the SS. Only way that Z28 would be worth buying would be for the rarity if you were a collector (personally I've never even seen a Sport Gold 'vert, let alone one with a neutral top). But for a daily driver, forget it, IMO.

Just go with the SS. After paint and bodywork, the Z28 would be getting close to the price of the SS if you put the hood and spoiler on. Plus like said before, the Cold is one of the worst colors IMO. Plus, with the top down and the black leather showing, the SS would pick up more chicks. And one more thing, IIRC, Gold is one of the worst resale colors.

'98 - not as good oiling system , one off engine harness / guage cluster, oddball parts on that year only ( the LS1 had some significant design revisions in '99 )
It is a rare color but not a very popular one
'00 - more easily broken into, prone to water leaks
better engine design , more fun factor, and better color combo for resale + SS package .
I'd go with the convertible SS

The '98 harness is a very good setup for swap but is the only year of that so a lot of parts places don't carry a lot of stuff for them. I had to go to a dealer for a '98 temp sensor on my LS1 swap , no place else had it.

If you love the look of the ss it will be difficult to take the z28. If you are going to keep it stockish the ss will have better value when you sell also. Don't forget the bigger wheels which won't matter if you are going to change them. Performance will be similar with the ss having a slight edge in handling due to suspension and tires. Personally there was no way I would have bought a z instead of my daily driver ss converible.
