If you dont lock the t-top down and are driving it can literally get blown up and out of the roof. Happened to me on the highway going 80 mph. It lifted and went flying in the air and crashed on the highway (it was 530am going to work so luckily it didnt hit anyone). As someone else said if the edges are fucked then it wont seal right and you would be better off finding a new t-top. I went to my insurance agent and told her that a rock kicked up and smashed mine on the highway and the whole thing collapsed and got sucked out of the car and they replaced it for me.

yes you can switch the lock. Very easily BTW. I would buy another one from someone in the forum or off ebay, and just change the lock. You can probably use yours in the mean time.

You could even test it. Have someone run the hose over it while your sitting inside... see if it even leaks. You might NOT have to change it.

Yup same has the guy above said. And i dont think it come from not locking it. Im pretty sure one of my friends was messing with with mine, because i remember him asking about while i was driving. So im pretty sure he unlatched it... an i didnt find out till it blew off on the highway. Again, lickily it didnt hit anyone. It musta gone 50-70 feet in the air.

The same thing happened to me. I was the night that I bought the car. Mine F-18ed off the car at about 90. It scared the hell out of me. It did not break but it was scratched really bad so I went ahead and bought another one. The lock is real easy to change. Just take off the two screws on the side and the clip that holds the handle on and the cover will come off. Last is the clip that holds the lock cylinder on and it pops right out.

I gave a friend a ride in my car and he grabbed the handle and then asked what it was. He thought it was the "oh ****" handle at first. I keep them locked religiously for this reason.

Same thing happened to me doin about 75. It was fine until i cracked my window to toss a chewing gum paper...it made a little whistle and bout the time i look over it flew up in the air no telling how high it went. There was nothing left but the handle and rubber. I guess thats what i get for littering

It is a polymer, no glass involved.
