Got a loan after my motor hydro-locked. Not nearly large enough for my current build, but I nickel and dime the rest. I couldn't just let my camaro sit for YEARS while I saved up the money for a new block and whole slew of other goodies!

I have one hobby that pays for the other hobbies. Full time work is working on airplanes. I build 700R4s/4L60Es on the side. (Yes I run my own product) The earnings from the tranny builds goes for the next hand gun that I just have to have, or a new set of clubs that is sure to help me shave strokes! But mostly it goes into my car. Almost done with my 9" diff build, and after that I will need to have a conversation with a fellow in the Dallas area about some heads! Cash all the way. I dont like being broke but it beats being in debt!

I pay cash for all the car parts that I buy.. Yeah it does take a lot longer if you are a broke *** like me, but in the end its worth it. I do have a loan of $2,000 at only 5% interest at my credit union that I normally keep going, but I only do that to keep my credit score going UP and UP!

I have always paid for my racing with side work. LOTS of it. Always had a fair ride. A few years ago it turned into a small after hours home business to keep uncle sam happy

We are always busy. I run a transmission shop durring the day and ours at night.

Now if I could only find time to sleep while building everyone elses cars and trying to get mine legal to 8.50

Damn Credit Cards got me in financial trouble the first time around Bad. Parted out the first car. Now the wife is back in school ( almost finished thank god), and I work an average of 60hrs+ a week. That pays the bills and such. I opened up a Small turbo shop to pay for my racing habbit, and have doen very well so far. It pays for its self and gives me the nice tax right offs I needed.

Moral of the story.... I will never have a damn Credit Card again.

I try to pay cash when I can but I'm young like you and just bought a townhouse so extra cash doesn't come around that easy. When I need to make a large purchase I get a new credit card with 0% interest and then pay it off before the interest comes. It works great for me, been though about 5 cards without paying interest but don't let it get away, you have to plan how much you can pay each month to pay it off before the 0% interest promotion ends. Once it's paid off, time for a new card with 0% interest for the next large purchase. Just be responsable and credit cards work great, they let you have the things you want before you have the money for them. Just don't over do it and you'll be fine.

Well dont get me wrong, I have plenty of credit cards but I pay them off every month. But yea if you have the time you can do zero % for a long time. Matter of fact my old 2000 SS was balance tranferred fron a 9% used car loan to a credit card from at zero % and moved to four other cards at zero % till it was paid off and the cool thing is you have the title in your hand.

Being a college student and only working part time at a pretty shitty job (ski shop), I don't have much money to screw around with. I just put my first paycheck towards my car payment and the rest of the month is money that I save in my bank account. At the end of the month if I have a decent amount of money in my bank, I'll put it into my car.

The wife does the street corner thing. I work a second job. And together it's not nearly enough

I've been building my Nova for almost 10 years. It's a constant upkeep even if I only bracket race and am not 100% focused on always going faster. As mentioned by many above, it's keeping your spending game in check. I use credit cards, but only when I have the funds to pay them off COMPLETELY when each monthly bill comes. I have a good friend that owns a speed shop, and he tries to help out a little when possible.

Moral: Keep at it, and have fun while doing it. If you get caught up in trying to always go faster, just remember someone will always be faster than you and/or have more $$$ than you do. Having fun with what you have is the name of the game.
